~~~~When Fate Smiles~~~~
Part Two
"I, well I, um." he stuttered. He couldn't very well come right out and tell her what he was thinking, could he? She smiled again and he lost whatever train of thought he had. "I just thought you were really pretty and I wanted to come and say hi." Mentally, he kicked himself. How lame was that? She smiled at him but inside her heart was fluttering. I don't care if it is just a line. She told herself. How long have I waited to hear that from someone? "So, hi!" She giggled as she said it. His smile beamed at her. "Hi!" They smiled like idiots at each other for what seemed like the longest time. "What do you do?" she asked, straight faced. "I'm in the music business." He said it modestly, with his head down. "Really, what sort of music?" "I'm a session player, drums. I've been doing it for a few years now. Pays the bills." She leaned closer to him. He was a good liar. "I love music, all kinds. I've probably heard you on something." He blushed just slightly. "Oh, probably not. I'm from Florida, I just play with local bands now and then." "Try me." She was enjoying this. "Okay. How about a group called Born Into Kaos?" "Hmm." She could play this game too. "Can't say that I have." "See?" he joked. He gazed into her eyes with interest. "What do you do?"
"Children." He looked shocked. "No, no!" She laughed at the look on his face. "I look after children, day care type thing, you know?" He nodded slowly. "I think so, you scared me there for a minute!" She took a sip of her drink. "What brings you to Canada, Nick?" She raised an eyebrow at him. "It's a long way from Florida, a mite colder too." He racked his brain trying to think of a plausible answer. "Um, a band from my hometown is working up here. I came along for the trip. They're good friends. They might get some gigs while they are here, if they are lucky." "That's great!" She smiled and nodded. Nick took a big gulp of his drink to finish it off. "So they left you to your own devices tonight?" She picked up her drink again and ran her finger along the rim of it. He moaned softly to himself, if she only knew how much she was turning him on right now....
"Um, yeah, well I like to check out the city by myself. We have different interests. It's easier this way, you know, by myself." "Hm hm." She slowly sipped her drink. She noticed Nick shift uncomfortably in his chair. He can't possibly be interested in me! She told herself. He's just being nice, there's no other singles here tonight. He's just being polite. "So, how come you are here by yourself? A good looking woman like you must have a boyfriend waiting for her somewhere?" Dawn blushed. "Thank you. No, I'm single, no one waiting for me anywhere." I'm waiting for you. Nick said to himself. Any man who passed you up is an idiot. "What about you?" Dawn placed her hand on his. "Please don't try and tell me that you don't have a girlfriend. Girls must be falling all over you." It was Nicks turn to blush. "I wish! My girlfriend and I broke up a few months ago." "I'm sorry." Dawn squeaked out. Willabeast was history? She wouldn't have believed it if she hadn't heard it with her own two ears. She was never less sorry about something in her entire life! "Thanks. It was meant to be, I think." "Well at least you realized it. Some people carry on forever just because it is comfortable." Nick looked at her in surprise. "That was kind of what was happening." "As long as you are happy, that is the main thing." She tipped her glass to capture the last few sips. "I am happy." He said. "Very happy." "Good!" She smiled at him again. Her lips were so full and her eyes so warm, she was beautiful. He wanted to kiss her right now and never stop. "So." She stood and pulled her jacket off the back of her chair, before sitting again and looking right into his eyes. "What do we do now?"
