Women
There are only 3 women
among the LiangShan Po captains : Hu the 3rd,
Mistress Gu, and Sun la Cadette. However these 3 heroines, lost in a world of men, are
as strong, brave and even fierce as their fellows.
Defending
the Family
Zhu village, Hu aka Ten Feet of Steel, will wound and capture
several heroes before joining
the outlaws and get married by Song Jiang.
Gu, the Tigress,
will use all her influence and tricks to convince the men of her
family to free Xie Bao et Xie Zhen
but she will reveal a good warrior when necessary.
As for Sun,
who deserves her nickname of Witch, her fierceness is equal to her charm and
she will shortly miss the murder of Wu Song
reknown as one of the strongest outlaws.
The other feminine
characters of the novel don't give a flattering image of women.
Except Lin Chong's wife who will commit suicide to avoid dishonour,
they are venal courtesans, unfaithful wives, old venomous harpies...
With such figures, one is not surprised by the lack of interest
of Song Jiang and his friends for love affairs...
