Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: What is the first
thing that I should know about this hobby?
A: You should know how to stay safe,
how to play the game and how not to get caught. I'd put a
lot of information here if I thought I could improve upon
what is already available, but I can't. Start at
Big
Doggie's Client Guide (I'll add
more links later)
Q: What is the best
overall Review Board on the internet?
A: While there are many Review Boards
on the internet, my personal favorite is Big
Doggie. Additional sites you may
want to check out would be YMMV
and ASPD.
Q: What is NewB's
favorite Chat Board on the internet?
A: While there are
many
Chat Boards on the internet, my
personal favorite is Big
Doggie.You can use the built-in
Java client licensed from ChatSpace,
the link to ChatSpace goes to the Manual and can give you
tips and tricks to better use the software. It is very easy
to use, but is still based on Java (has problems
sometimes).
Q: Okay, I used
ChatSpace, but I disconnect sometimes without warning?
A: While ChatSpace is an excellent
product, it is still based on Java. You can bypass ChatSpace
and use an IRC client instead. If you are using a
PC,
then MIRC
is the solution for you, if you are using a Macintosh,
then use IRCLE.
Although IRC clients are no where as easy to use as
ChatSpace, they are MUCH more stable and provide faster
connections and faster responses. Read the bottom of Big
Doggie's Chat
page to learn how to configure your IRC client to connect to
Big Doggie using IRC.
Q: What the heck do all
those abbreviations mean in posts and chat areas?
A: There are quite a few
abbreviations
to make typing easier and faster for those who chat and post
often. There is also a great deal of "Specialized" language
found involved as well. Click HERE
to view a list of abbreviations and "Specialized" terms and
their meanings.
Q: How do I use the
Search function on the TBD Boards?
A: TBD is in the process of improving
the SEARCH function by using a database back-end for paid
subscribers. Free members have access to the traditional
Search function. Once again, someone else has written a
GREAT process for how to best use it. Thanks go out to Gypsy
Boy who explains all on the Chicago Board. Click
HERE
to see how to use the Search function.
Q: Where the heck is the
answer to my questiont?
A: If it is not listed here, then
send
me your question, I will add it
to the FAQ's listed here.
