 ... Me.

My real name is David.  I have gone by "Dave" with friends since the 4th grade because my mom used to work with someone really cool who was named "Dave."  I live in mostly-sunny California and have lived here all my life.  I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.  Since then, I have served three semesters at the California State University, Sacramento, two of which were in the teacher credential program as a single-subject candidate for mathematics.  In the middle-end of the program, I realized that teaching was something I was not ready for in this stage of my life, so I left the program.  I currently work with a good company and rather enjoy what I do.

I tend to do more listening than talking, though I can help carry a conversation really well with the right people.  I use my sense of humor rather often (which can be supplemented by some careful sarcasm) but will be serious when important.  I've been doing my best to avoid negativity and gossip, since both can draw a person in and consume what's good in them.  Basically, I see myself as an open-minded, good, caring person who looks for the same in others.

Music is one of the greatest loves of my life.  At times I have been questioned about my tastes in music because much of it seemed to be in direct contradiction to my personality.  I have scared other friends of mine for knowing songs I don't even like.  My tastes range from metal (e.g. My Dying Bride, old Metallica, old Megadeth, Bolt Thrower), rock (e.g. Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, '60s folk and hippie stuff), punk (e.g. Operation Ivy, older Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, Dead Kennedys), industrial (1000 Homo DJs, Lard), traditional (Scottish pipes and drums), classical (symphonic, some classical guitar), and some other things (e.g. the Doors, Simon & Garfunkle, U2, some rap).  A catalog of the CDs I own, along with the concerts I've attended, will be found on my music page.

I love sports, though I rarely get out to participate in any of them.  I love to watch American football, bowling, and the occasional baseball game.  My favorite teams are the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and the San Francisco Giants.  I will root for the Sacramento Kings and San Francisco 49ers, but I cannot call myself a major fan of either (probably a minor fan).  On the playing end, I enjoy racquetball, softball, bowling, billiards, soccer, and football.  Anything else that I haven't mentioned I've either tried and would try again, or I haven't done before yet am willing to try.

I have dabbled with role-playing games, though I don't play much of anything at the moment.  My favorite games are Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP), Gemini Fantasy Roleplay, and Middle Earth Fantasy Roleplay (MERP).  I own some books for each of those systems, though the vast bulk of my collection is for WFRP.

My other relevant stats can be found below:

Favorite movies/genres:

The Last Boy Scout, The Crow, Young Frankenstein, Airplane!, Airplane II, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; old or silly sci-fi/ "B" movies (e.g. Them!, C.H.U.D., Roddy Piper movies); Lord of the Rings movies; The Hobbit cartoon movie; Secret of NIMH.

Favorite TV Shows:

X-Files (ones where they just do certain creepy case files are the best ones); Millennium (went a little downhill after the first season); Boston Public; M*A*S*H; Night Court; The Lone Gunman; The Young Ones (early 80's British comedy); Garfield & Friends; Scooby Doo (the ones that had Daphne, Thelma, and Fred in it as well; didn't like Scrappy); Transformers; Sailor Moon; Looney Toons; Win Ben Stein's Money (better with Jimmy, though that woman they have on there now is pretty hot); Six Feet Under

Favorite Music:

Too numerous to list. I like hard rock (Guns N' Roses), heavy metal (old Metallica, Pantera, My Dying Bride), and punk (Dropkick Murphys, Dead Kennedys) the best, but I like various other bands as well (The Doors, Cat Stevens, Tommy James and the Shondells).

That pretty much sums it up, though there are other things as well.  Feel free to e-mail me.

...This Page

My first web site was established on Geocities around 1996.  Since then, this site has undergone many changes, including a relocation to a different account.  For an overview of the site versions, see my 10th Anniversary page.

Originally, my first web site (black background with red text and graphics; gad, what does that say about my mental state then?) was themed after The Young Ones TV show (186 Purland Walk is the address where they lived).  I was able to do little with that theme, since my desires leaned elsewhere while creating the various sections of the site.  Since then, my site has changed and morphed into its current state.

This current design is a salvage job from a former web site I designed as a project for a class I had in the teacher credential program at CSU Sacramento.  With the inspiration spurred by my Scottish ancestry, a photo of Scone Castle taken by my German friend, Ariane, and some ideas taken from helping my friends in class, I designed a site similar to this one.  Since I am no longer a CSUS student, that original site is no longer online.  Feeling like I could create a better personal site with the design of that former page, I resurrected the old design I enjoyed so much to revamp my personal site.
