After Getting Your Gerbils:

After you get your gerbils and have them happily playing in their new homes you will now need to learn how to keep them clean and healthy.

Gerbils are naturally clean and frequently groom themselves.  If you notice your gerbil seems to have too much oil in his or her fur, simple place a bowl or plate of either Chinchilla dust or corn meal in their cage.  You gerbils will roll in the dust and it absorb the excess oil.  This is also a great way to see how comical your gerbils really are!

Cage cleaning should be done at least every week or two weeks.  A dumping of bedding and a thorough washing of both cage and toys is a must.  This will keep the chance of bacterial growth to an absolute minimum.

You should check your gerbils: eyes, teeth, nose, body, and tail at least every time the cage is cleaned.  By doing this health check you will be able to detect any abnormalities before they can cause problems.  If you find anything questionable, feel free to ask me and I will assist you in finding out what you have found.

All that is left now is to give your gerbils plenty of love and attention.  Each gerbil should be played with at least 15-30min. a day or more.  This will help keep your gerbils socialized with you and will also keep them from getting bored.

Now that you know the basic care of gerbils, have fun and enjoy your new family members.  I am always willing to help you with any questions you have, please don't hesitate to ask!
