Silence

There is a certain sound to silence -

    A heaviness, an emptiness
It echoes in the darkness;
    Wears at the soul,
      Gnaws at the spirit.
The wounds it leaves behind
Bleed tears of acheing memory
Spilling out over the blade of a knife
Sharper than any metal and colder than any ice.

Twist the knife.

Feel the edge within you
Feel it pierce you
Know it for what it is -
The hungry touch of the teeth of silence.

Refugee

How vast is our jealousy?
Your jaded laugh torments

    The shame torn day
Alone from anger
You disdain haven
A lover's cry offers shallow comfort
The sadly buried joy
    Of a soul kept withing
A refugee of pain.

Fading

burnt out candles gutter wildly
fading, failinging
trailing away into the deepening dusk
like whisps of life, breathed their last
their light long gone
and swallowed whole

the acrid scent of nothingness
beyond the tattered shroud of time
stirs forgotten memories -
bloody clawed and sharp of tooth
they crowd the shadows
waiting to pounce
the ghosts of shades
and all the brilliant colors fade
within the darkened depths of Lethe

and so it seems that eyes once blue
as midsummer day or sunlight on water
seem gray and shadowed
lifeless and dark -
and who, when all is said and done,
recalls the unblackened sky?

Moments

Each gently falling grain in the glass of time
Requits a single passion -
    Love and hate -
      Life and death -
Snowflakes falling through a winterless void of past and present
Into a sea of forgotten memories
That laps with dry and starving tongues
Against a distant rocky shore
Where the gray mist hangs with heavy heart
And colorless birds cry with the silent voices of unstrung harps.

The Wolf

The tragedy of time
Is knowing the death of tomorrow
In the wolf's teeth
Even gods fall
They cry, lost in the dark
Never mourned -
Down among the dead
It is terrible to be reminded of hope.

Under Darkness

Mourning the fall of day

    Believe not -
In sleep lies death
Under darkness
Dusty velvet kiss of broken promises
Hateful dreams gone cold
Alone, they never knew life
    Nor ever could.

Stalker

silence
---seated amidst
-- the tattered shreds
of self and soul
- rendered mute
from shattered screams
----- darkness stalking
------------ silent paws
whispered from shadows
--- where the mind creeps
--- unwatched,
-------- unwanted,
haunting dreams
-- -with the claws
-- of childhood

Fallen

whispers of darkling souls
          drop down to rest -
      blight stricken wings
           spread shadows
 ~ falling ~
    ~ sullen ~
           over sleeping dreams
