The COPC provides on site advising for residents seeking affordable housing options and victims of unfair housing practices.
COPC provides representation for the Macedonia Community on the Violent Crimes Task Force. The Task Force's objectives are to reduce violent crimes, impact the flow of illegal firearms and drugs to juveniles in the area, reduce prostitution, assaults and nuisance calls in the area, and create an atmosphere of safety based upon the interaction of law enforcement and community leaders.
The COPC actively recruits local college and university students for outreach work in our community. The students work in the various COPC program areas providing service to the Macedonia community and gaining valuable work experience.
Leadership and Job Preparedness Training
COPC has partnered with the American Friends Service Committee to form the Women's Literacy Group. Through monthly meetings, the group focuses on leadership and program development.
COPC also offers a six-week leadership training course in the spring and fall of each year where community residents can develop their leadership skills. The "CAN DO" Leadership Program is conducted by Dr. Ruth DeHoog of UNCG. The training topics include Building Communities, Personal Inventory, Leadership Skills, and Career Advancement.
COPC has established a Language Line at Fairview Elementary School. The Language line provides a live translator for non-English speaking parents to communicate with their children's teachers.
The High Point Police Department and COPC partner to sponsor an intensive 3 week summer program for the youth of High Point. 7th, 8th, and 9th grade youth are targeted for the program. Participants learn problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and choice/consequence skills.
This program invites community youth to take an active role in community building and leadership. Members of Star Kidz will have the opportunity to participate in hands on activities and programs, while serving their community through volunteering.
Macedonia Baseball Association
COPC works with residents, city employees, and business owners to provide little league baseball for kids of Macedonia. Boys & Girls ages 8-12 are encouraged to participate. The league promotes sportsmanship and teamwork.
