National Research Laboratory (NRL) is a research organisation under Indian Agricultural Research Institute and was established under the aegis of the joint UNDP/FAO/IAEA Programme, to serve as the national centre for the application of nuclear science in agricultural research. Isotope Hydrology Research in NRL aims to achieve the FAO/IAEA programme's one of the broad objective 'Optimisation of water management practices in field crops under different farming system through isotope research, which have a minimal effect on the environment'. The ultimate aim is assessment of the amount of potable water that may be extracted from underground, its renewability and suggest policy guidelines for judicious use of groundwater.
