Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), under the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, is a multidisciplinary Scientific Organisation with a mandate to Develop and disseminate technologies for Scientific and Sustainable development and management of India's Ground Water Resources, including monitoring exploration, assessment and augmentation.
CGWB carries out regional hydrogeological studies which provide information on ground water occurrence in different terrains and are essential for future planning of ground water development and management. First level (Systematic) surveys on 1:50,000 scale had been completed for the entire country by March, 1991.
CGWB also conducts periodic hydrogeological studies to assess the qualitative and quantitative changes in the ground water regime in time and space. Approximately 20 MHa area is covered under periodic studies every year.
