Being an FTL Flight Attendant and hearing the story, I am so sorry to hear of the pain you suffered but happy to hear of the success that you were able to bring to the memories of those no longer with us. May God Bless you and your family in the years to come.
Thank you Sue. May God bless you as well.

Tonight I have been surfing and found so much about my old company FTL. I worked for them from '57 to '64, in London, New York, Newark, Franfurt, Burbank and Tachikawa, Tokyo. I was on duty in Tokyo the night that '21C was lost and remember it in detail a though there was little detail available to us. Some of the search and rescue aircraft left from Tachikawa, but of course found nothing. It was a sad night all round as we lost two Connies that night. The other in the Aleutions with the loss of the Flight Engineer. I had met at different times all of the crew of '21C, at different places around the FTL world. I had also flown on '21C on many occasions.
I am moved and amazed by your story and your tenacity. I must congratulate you on putting this site together in such detail. I would like to say more but am at a lose for words.
I also logged onto the FTL club newsletter tonight and learned of so many friends who have passed on during the last year. Life is so strange and sad at times but there are many good things in life as well.
Now I live in the UK once again having traveled the world, and I am very happy here. I hope you are too. I hope to go to the FTL reunion in 1999. Good luck with your family.
Kind regards
John Townes.
Thank you very much John. Your words are very kind and heartfelt in us all. Hope to meet you and all the rest of the retirees at the reunion. Thanks to my daughter, Tammi, who presented the roundtrip tickets on Christmas, we're able attend on behalf of my father and the other 106. This experience will be right up there with our visit to Washington, D.C. It's so true that life is so strange and sad. Some of us who are not so strong can easily take years to overcome a loss so great. Many of us eventually find that the greatest strength is above and outside of ourselves -- beyond even our own comprehension.

Your article was very moving. I had met your father a few times but did not have the privelege of knowing him well as I had just hired on with Tigers in Aug/61.I applaud your efforts to achieve recognition for your dad and the others who perished on that night. I wish you and your family well.
Thank you very much Captain Petrie

Thank you very much Marie. Just like you said, "...even though (your) story is different, it all comes down to painful loss and coming to terms with it. It is not easy." All we can do is find that comfort in each other. Thanks for being there. God bless you.

CATHY, THE DEDICATION TO YOUR FATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I NEVER REALLY KNEW THE WHOLE STORY. NOW I DO!!!I KNEW THAT YOU AND YOUR BROTHER AND SISTER HAD A TOUGH LIFE, BUT I NEVER REALIZED IT WAS THAT TOUGH. YOU ALWAYS WERE A BEAUTIFUL PERSON, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT.
THE EXPERIENCES THAT WE BOTH SHARED EARLY IN OUR LIFES WILL STAY WITH ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE -- YOU WERE MY FIRST. YOUR WEB SITE IS BEAUTIFUL. YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED A BIT. YOUR STILL AS BEAUTIFUL AS EVER AND SO IS YOUR DAUGHTER. WE STILL NEED TO GET TOGETHER IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND TALK ABOUT THE OLD TIMES. YOUR PERSISTANCE AND HARD WORK TRYING TO FIND YOUR FATHER WILL PAY OFF SOME DAY. SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED!! I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU. YOU KNOW WHAT, WE BOTH TURNED OUT JUST FINE. I HAVE TWO BOYS, TONY/29 AND THOMAS/16 AND A GRANDSON, CALEB/4. TONY LIVES IN AUSTRALIA/MELBOURNE. I REALLY ENJOYED READING YOUR WEB SITE AND SEEING BOTH YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER. YOU MADE MY DAY. LOVE,WAYNE
Wayne, you'll also be very special to me for the rest of my life as well. We did share a lot in Pacoima Junior High, and at Poly High. There always was a part of me that I never could share with anyone. Well, now you know what part that was. If my father had returned from this flight, I'm sure that my mother would never have been committed to the mental hospital & my parents would have continued loving each other; my sister & I would have never went into foster homes; we never would have lost our house, possessions, identities, childhood, and I probably would have spent the rest of my life with you. Thanks to the internet, we were able to locate one another after 25 years. All my best to you & your family Wayne. Always. Congradulations for having "made it. I always knew you would.

i was a tiger pilot for 22 yrs then we merged with fedex. not a happy marriage!! great web sight you have. keep up the good work. did not know your dad but was in airforce at that time stationed in japan. i was on that search mission looking for debris. never found anything. we spent a whole week flying out of okinawa. never realized what we were looking for. now that chapter in my life has been solved. thank you. if there is anything i can do to help let me know. i will try if i can.
Thank you Bob for signing the Guestbook. It's freightening that no one was told what/who to look for! How could one try and find someone/something when they don't know who/what their looking for?!! I'm happy that as a result of this website, you are able to solve this chapter in your life.

Your story was very touching and certainly worthy of investigation. Especially with the advances in deep underwater scanning. If they can find the Titanic, then why not find an airplane or space capsule? Thank You and God Bless all. Ed Cullinane
Thank you Ed. It could be due to the fact that it was never lost in the first place. Having an assumption that the plane was destroyed in flight is what we're suppose to believe. It's not a fact. Plus, the "Blue Hope Diamond" wasn't involved here and there were more people (respectfully) who lost their lives on the Titanic. However, whatever happened to this plane with 107 lives aboard, I'm convinced, has saved millions of lives and it's mission was worth more than any jewel. In addition, why would those who decide what's classified information, be so anxious to bring this to light; hence, prosecuting themselves and/or risking the national security of our country?

Very hard work that means a lot to a lot of people. Thank You I'm a retired Tiger but when "it" happened I was furloughed from another carrier. I met a pilot that had just left the Navy. He was Aircraft Commander on a WV (Connie w/early warning radar) that was assigned to the search. He always thought it strange that his aircraft was called off before they'd covered only about a third of their assigned search area. Weather was not a factor, he said it was quite good at the time. His name: Dave Poppers. We lost contact years ago. Last I heard, he had gone with(the old) Continental. Thanks Again for your site. There are many spirits wandering that have not been properly recognized.
Larry, thank you very much for signing the Guestbook. From what I understand, President Kennedy had called off the search to redirect the public's attention.

I remember well the day of 21C's downing. I was a new-hire navigator and had occasion to be at BUR, Lockheed Air Terminal (Tigers was headquartered there prior to their move to LAX). In a passing conversation with a friend, I mentioned how tragic it was that "Jim Johnstone was killed in the crash." He said "What are you talking about? Jim wasn't on the airplane." We had been talking about two different airplanes. 11C, a freighter, had gone in at Adak. There were seven crewmembers on board, and flight engineer Johnstone was trapped in the burning aircraft. That same day, 21C "disappeared" near Guam with over a hundred aboard. Being new to the company, I had only a passing acquaintance with some of the crew: Greg Thomas, the captain; Bob Wish, co-pilot; Grady Burt, navigator (on his first line flight); and Barbara Wamsley, the senior FA. I didn't know George Nau. It's a good thing, what you are trying to accomplish for your father and all those others. If I can lend my support, moral or otherwise, please let me know. Sincerely, Jim Brophy
Thank you Jim for your kind words. I don't know what I could ask of you, other than your prayers, since I know you couldn't bring our loved ones back, or tell us what "really" happened to them.

Thank you Ginny for all the work you have done on behalf of me and my family. Your perseverence and committment is an inspiration and an awesome thing to behold. I thank you and love you for all you have meant to me. Eric.
Eric, I do believe you meant to write "Cathy," but Ginny certainly deserves to be thanked for all of her help with the endless letter writing, numerous phone calls to find surviving relatives, with our First N6921C Reunion, and most of all for her moral support. Eric, your family will always stand out in my mind, as yours was the very first family that was located, stemming from the Personal Ad that I place in the L.A. Times every year on March 16th, as a Memorial to this flight. (Last year my daughter, Tammi, placed the ad as a surprise -- and in keeping this tradition alive). Your suggestion of holding hands and leading us all in a prayer at the First N6921C Reunion added the spiritual connection that otherwise may have been omitted in error. Thank you too, Eric, for all that you've done.

Cathrine, I joined Tigers in 1966 and so my knowledge of the plight of 21 Charlie is only word of mouth. My good friend RC Anderson in Hong Kong has shared many of the details with me...so much so, that I retrieved your add in the Sunday Times this past March and have saved it.
I think it is tremendous that you have kept the meomory of those souls alive for so many years. Your web page will surly perpetuate that memory. Your dad must have instilled that Tiger spirit in you. God bless you and God bless his soul. Paul
Paul, I sincerely appreciate the kind words you have written here. The tears started rollin' and a burning in the throat could not be controled. To finally be able to obtain "feedback" as a result of this website is worth more to me than a roof over my head! Many others who will read these comments will also be able to feel the lasting "aftershock" that the impact this tragedy has had on so many lives. My father & the other 106 would be proud! Thank you from the bottom of my heart

I am retired from SEA/FTL/FDX and have seen many of my friends fly west. But I reckon the hardest memories that still linger are those of "what if". Now we see through a glass darkly, but one day when we have all passed the PNR, nothing will be hidden.
Dudley, It took awhile to realize that PNR was the "Point of No Return." Yes, one day soon ALL will be revealed!

I am a retired FTL/FDX Captain (1997). I have lost many good friends over the years, some still MIA from VietNam. It's hard. Try and disregard the stories with no logical background on the fate of this flight. An accident occurred and these fine people were lost. Try to move on. We will remember them. Bob Baird
Bob, we don't know for certain that an accident had even occured at all. If people knew more than what's written here, they too would have more data in which to make a more logical conclusion -- which explains why there's so many stories. "We" will all return to dust, and with "us" this story. But while I have breath, I will never be able to "move on" until my own "mission" is completed here on earth. "We" can remember "them," but what about "those" who haven't heard of "them?" That's what my mission is
