Home By the Sea

                Lockeport, N.S.

I'd like to tell you a little about the small fishing village I live in. It is located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, 2 hours south of Halifax. It boasts of a beautiful white sand Cresent Beach. After a storm when the surf comes in surfers can be seen enjoying the wave action.

10.58 lb. lobsterRay is a lobster fisherman and we get to enjoy the bounty of the sea, whether it is fresh fish or fresh lobster. This is Ray's big lobster he caught last year that went to grace the table of the President of TaiWan at a banquet. You can see by the size of the claw when compared to a grown man's hand just how big it was. Ray is shown holding it to compare it to his body size. He is 5 ft. 8 in. in height.

Sam Austin eating lobster feedNot all lobsters landed are that big but you can be sure it is going to be good! This is a shot of Evangelist Sam Austin and his wife Boddy enjoying some of the local catch.Who needs a plate for this meal! Just grab one and start eating! As we say in Lockeport, "Some good!!!"I dare even say "Right some good!" and that's as good as you can get!

A day's catchLockeport is also famous for it's Shark Derby held each year in August. Fishermen come from all over to take part. Our boat, the Turbo Lady, usually takes a crew out for aweek-end of fishing and fun. This is one day's catch of shark for the crew.

biggest one at 238 lbsJeremy Bradsky of Connecticut caught this huge shark and it was the largest landed right up till the last boat that weighted in. he was beaten out by about 5 pounds.

The Department of Fisheries does research measurements on the shark that are landed. Then the sharks are taken to a research facility to be used to make an experimental drug to treat cancer. The sharks are gladly donated for the research by the fishermen.

If you are ever in the area in August and are looking for some fun on the water, why not stay a while and join the fine fishing.

Maybe you would like to see some more of our beautiful. I thought maybe you would, so I went for a drive and took these beautiful spring shots of some of our ocean scenery.

I hope you have fallen in love with my seaside home as I have. Most visitors go home having left a little piece of their heart here. Many return year after year.

Well, thanks for stopping by. God bless you and have a wonderful day.
