RAEA MENTOR PROGRAM

Purpose: The RAEA is asking for your participation in a project in which they assign an active retired art educator to serve as a mentor for each active student chapter around the nation. The purpose is to bring together the most and least experienced members of NAEA and encourage life-long NAEA involvement, and cross-generational exchange and appreciation.

Program: RAEA mentors would like to be encouragers, cheerleaders, and resource people for your chapter's efforts in promoting quality art education and quality art educators. In turn, your chapter would keep them updated on latest trends in art education and would inspire them with sharing your chapter's activities.

We highly encourage your chapter to participate in this. It can only enrich your NAEA experience as well as your future careers!

Contact: If you are a chapter who would like to participate in the RAEA mentorship, contact the RAEA Student Liason, Liz Smith-Cox at [email protected].

Materials for particpating or curious Student Chapters will be posted in the download sections as they become available.

YOUNG ARTISTS OF AMERICA PILOT PROGRAM

AN EXCITING NEW OPPORTUNITY!

Purpose: The purpose of the Young Artists of America (YAA) is to provide early experiences in teaching art for high school, middle school, and possibly elementary students. YAA functions as an studio art club and provides purpose for pre-existing art clubs.

Program: The goal of YAA clubs are to provide meaningful extracurricular art experiences where students within a multi-aged/multi-ability environment are engaged in peer teaching where more experienced and advanced students teach skills and techniques to younger and less experienced students. Collaborative projects such as murals, mosaics, t-shirt printing, or animation are ideal. As a result, our students will enjoy reciprocal experiences teaching art and thereby encouraged to join the art education profession. Currently, the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) restricts membership based on GPA and focuses more on community involvement and advocacy whereas YAA aims for full-inclusion in a studio based extracurricular club that enjoys national recognition.

Current Development: Student Chapter put forward a motion requesting NAEA adopt YAA. It was rejected barring pending further investigation. YAA will be re-presented to the Board based on the pilot experiences of sponsoring Student Chapters.

Contact: If your chapter is interested in being one of the first to sponsor a YAA, please contact the Presidential Team any time. Help recruit the next genration of art educators!
