AN
EXCITING NEW OPPORTUNITY!
Purpose:
The purpose of the Young Artists of America (YAA) is to provide
early experiences in teaching art for high school, middle school,
and possibly elementary students. YAA functions as an studio art
club and provides purpose for pre-existing art clubs.
Program:
The goal of YAA clubs are to provide meaningful extracurricular
art experiences where students within a multi-aged/multi-ability
environment are engaged in peer teaching where more experienced
and advanced students teach skills and techniques to younger and
less experienced students. Collaborative projects such as murals,
mosaics, t-shirt printing, or animation are ideal. As a result,
our students will enjoy reciprocal experiences teaching art and
thereby encouraged to join the art education profession. Currently,
the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) restricts membership based
on GPA and focuses more on community involvement and advocacy
whereas YAA aims for full-inclusion in a studio based extracurricular
club that enjoys national recognition.
Current
Development: Student Chapter put forward a motion requesting
NAEA adopt YAA. It was rejected barring pending further investigation.
YAA will be re-presented to the Board based on the pilot experiences
of sponsoring Student Chapters.
