Aimee Allen, Student Outreach Coordinator (West), is a native of Los Angeles, California. She received her B.F.A in Fine Arts, Crafts, from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), in 1999, where she was President of the student organization, The Contemporary Crafts Society.
Upon graduating from VCU, Aimee served as Coordinator of Public Programs and Special Events with Cheekwood Museum of Art and Botanical Gardens, in Nashville, Tennessee. The experience introduced her to “the museum” as a dynamic and unique context for arts education.
In 2002, Aimee accepted the position of Curator of Education for the Museum of American Quilter’s Society (MAQS), in Paducah, Kentucky. As Curator, she developed the interdisciplinary outreach program “Kentucky: A Cornerstone for Western Expansion” with Cooper Whiteside Elementary School. It was this experience that galvanized her passion for visual arts education and encouraged her to pursue a graduate degree.
Presently, Aimee is completing a master’s degree in Art and Visual Culture Education, at the University of Arizona, Tucson. She also works full-time for Professor of Optical Sciences and UA Chair of Condensed Matter Physics, Dr. Charles M. Falco – of The Hockney/ Falco Thesis (a theory that demonstrated how some early Renaissance artists used lenses and the pinhole principle to project images while creating works of art). Professor Falco and The Hockney/ Falco Thesis are also the subjects of her graduate thesis research - on interdisciplinary art-based research and practice.
In March, 2001, Aimee was selected to serve as NAEA Student Outreach Coordinator for the western region. She can be reached on the social network: http://naeavisionwest.ning.com or by email at [email protected]
