Northern Area Community Plan
Is this rural life ?

Rural Life and the Environment

Rural Life

Rural Industry

A thriving, balanced rural environment is key to improving quality of life for those who live and work in the area. But problems to be tackled are not just all about maintaining the current world-view of rural England a twee but expensive place to live, but allowing the stakeholders to shape their future.

The areas to the north of Salisbury are blessed with rural beauty and archaelogical significance a point that must nit be lost but this beauty brings issues to be tackled. How to maintain housing affordable to those that how grown up in the region and do not want to move away when the time comes to purchase or rent a property; how to encourage business enterprise and investment for employment and how to protect the natural environment while taking account of the above.

What are the goals ?

A number of key issues were initially identified by the Community Action Groups at their first meeting.

  • Housing needs ( for younger couples and local people;
  • Litter control;
  • Development of Amesbury Town Centre;
  • Enhancing information in the Community.

What actions are needed ?

Last years Rural White Paper Our Countryside: the Future A fair deal for rural England addressed many rural issues, particularly in respect of planning for rural businesses and industry and the re-use of old agricultural buildings.

Further consultation through the Area Committee - Parish Councils - County Council should bring greater improvements in establish needs in various areas.
