The thundering Ghosts           Story:- 1 2 3 4 5

This began in approx 1966. My dad was transferred to Mankato. He bought a old five bedroom house. Basement, main floor, upstairs, and attic. My first experience was when My cousin, two sisters, and myself moved down in the summer of 66 to be with my dad. Mom & my oldest sister & 7 brothers were getting ready to move and selling that place, which had a few stories of it's own. Anyway, we didn't have any furniture, besides a chair and dad's bed. So we brought sleeping bags to sleep in. My sister's & I thought we'd pick our room before the boy's came the following week. We decided to sleep in the second room on the right. It had no drapes but the ropes were there. We went to bed that night with our sleeping bags sprawled on the floor. Our feet toward the window and heads toward the door. We had just fallen asleep (or almost) when we heard the drapes shut. (No drapes, the rope only). We lifted our heads to see the ropes swinging quite high. As if someone whipped them when they were done. Needless to say we ran down the stairs and my dad heard the thundering of our footsteps. (his bedroom is on the main floor). He just smiled and let us sleep on the livingroom floor. That was the beginning of many years of "What the hey". Things moved pretty fast the following week. Soon our family was together again in this new home. We were having a 6pm supper, as usual, a sitdown with all eleven of us children around the table when all of the sudden it sounded like something huge fell upstairs. My mom, yelled:"Oh my God, who's missing"! She took a quick roll call and saw we were all present and accounted for. I mean even the windows shook! She ran upstairs thinking that a huge dresser she had upstairs had somehow fallen over. Well she returned to tell us that it must have been a sonic boom. We were used to those up in Mpls. in the 60's. This went on just about every night for the whole summer. Little did we know, about 3 months later, after talking with our new neighbors, they didn't even know what a sonic boom was! This happened ocassionally over quite some time. I could and should someday write a book. We had things dissapear and reappear. We heard footsteps, a rocking chair, doors slam, lights & the T.V. go on and off. There was tapping on shoulders. And one time, I don't know if it was a drunk or what but a guy in the middle of the afternoon, walked in our backdoor, through the kitchen, dining room, living room, and onto the pourch without even seeing my mom, brother, and myself. He stood for a few minutes and walked back out the way he came. When we heard the back door close, we went to lock the door and no one was in sight!
