My Little Pony Memories
Forgive me if this is a bit short: let me explain why.
When I was little, I only had the grand sum of: 6 ponies. The reason why: I hated ponies (well My Little Ponies in general, I went horse riding). Now I have read about PTC (pony tormenting child) and I do not consider myself one of them. Anyway I was given at some time Posey (of which I called Flower), Lemondrop (plus Show Stable; Lemondrop was called Raindrop), Green Tootsie (called Lollipop), Baby Cotton Candy (was given no particular name), Baby Tiddely Winks (non BBE; also was given no particular name) and Sun Shower (was only played with in the bath). I had an annual (cant remember which one it was), "A Shock at the Stable Show", "The Cross Weather Witch" and "The Trolls and the Castle of Darkness" books.
I only remember being given Baby Cotton Candy for Christmas, the same year as I was given Baby Tiddely Winks plus Nursery. I was only 6 at the time. My nana (my spelling of Nanna) got me for that particular one. Unlike some websites that state Baby Cotton Candy came with a purple rocker this one came with a play pen. All of her accessories are still around, except for the blanket. I remember going around the kitchen with Baby Cotton Candy (at this time I had her out of box) saying "Mummy Mummy look what I have got". My mother was not impressed. Before that incident I remember getting out of bed and seeing this strange box. This "strange" box turned out to be a Nursery complete with UK box. I remember thinking "What a stupid building" but it somehow survived, almost mint. I didn't play with it much though. I played a lot with Sun Shower (has every single accessory) in the bath and Flower (Posey).
However 2 months later (when my birthday was) I was given green Tootsie. I remember thinking "what an ugly pony". Consequently Tootsie suffered more than the others did. It made me fuel my hatred for "My Little Pony" even more. I kicked her (along with the others), drew on her feet with colouring pencils and basically when I was angry out came Tootsie and gave her a good kicking around the room. I didn't draw on her body or cut her hair, as you will see later.
Eventually I was given a stable from another range called "Casey" when I was 10 (1991). The "My Little Pony" was placed in a box and resigned to the cupboard. When I was 12 (1992) most of the toys I had were resigned to the attic, forgotten about.
Until 1993. My mother, thinking that I was too old for bath toys, so she decided to give "to a more deserving child" as she put it. Unfortunately Sun Shower (plus float) was in that, so off she went. Fortunately the comb survived as it was in the box with the show stable accessories. The ponies and Show Stable were in the attic, unknown what fate was to become of them.
My parents in 1993 decided to get the attic converted. So off they hired a skip and the old toys were taken down. Some of the bigger toys (I had a kitchen type thing on wheels) were thrown out. All the toys that were mine (including Neddy the rocking donkey; yes you heard right) were given to me and I was told to sort it out. If I wanted them I was told to put them in a separate pile. The ones I no longer wanted were put into a pile, to go to a car boot sale.
I came to the Show Stable and the ponies, thinking about them and they stayed. In fact anything horse related stayed. Various things such as Sylvanian Families went. The books went. So they were put back into the attic (once building work had finished) and forgotten about. Until 1997.
I was reading a magazine of my mother's (for your information called Take a Break) during which there was a competition for kids. This one was to win some "My Little Ponies". It said that children's favourite "My Little Pony" was returning next month. I remember seeing "My Little Pony" in Woolworth's a month later. I remember thinking what happened to "My Little Pony". Also, I went back to the attic and began looking at the ponies, once hated. They were seen in a new light, happy little ponies wanting to be loved and played with. Now I began to love them and I didn't play with them, as I was 16 at the time.
So I saved my money up and managed to buy 2 MOC ponies before they were discontinued. But that is not the end.
Also during 1997 I went to another car boot sale. I went as my mother was selling our old toys. I went around to look. I found a stall selling ponies. So I got 10 of them, choosing because I liked them, not because I knew anything about them. My mother was not impressed.
About a week later I went to a local market stall for a charity called "Operation Christmas Child". They were selling little ponies including the UK version of Twisty Tail. (I wish I got that one!) Slowly my collection was growing.
After 1997 my collection stopped growing. My mother didn't go to car boot sales much and I didn't buy any other new ponies. So my collection stayed static.
Until July 2000. I was talking to my American friend AvidIcon (who sells on ebay) and he was talking about ebay. So I had a look at the UK version, seeing if any My Little Ponies were for sale. And they were. I looked at an auction for "Up, Up and Away" and bid. I also bid on "Wave Runner". I won.
So there I went, bidding on ebay. I was recommended Dream Valley. There my collection (and consequently knowledge grew).
In January 2001 I designed this website.
So here goes. That is my memories. They are different from many others. I don't remember any commercials on TV, or any TV specials. Until last week was the first time I saw any TV specials.
Hope you enjoyed this!
