In the 22nd Century, the government (or whoever) got a whole bunch of people from almost every country and sent them away to space to research. Unfortuantly the space ship screwed up and it crashed on an unknown planet. It was a mysterious planet because it was the second one with oxygen, water and other traits of Earth. When the ship crashed many of the passengers died leaving 6 alive. However, those 6 were all males. Which ment that they were unable to produce babies. The only way to survive was to clone! And that's exactly what they did...
Hundreds of years later, the planet, which is now called Tetra II, become a replica of the Earth. There were millions of human males living there! Males and only males! Since the only survivors were males on the ship and they were unable to reproduce, they could only make male clones. However, later they were able to make Marionettes - machines that look like human females. They're not humans at all though! They are machines! No feelings or reactions what so ever. Sort of like robots and you tell them what to do and they will obey your orders. But not anything close to being human.
On that lonely planet is a city - Japoness. The home land of Otaru Mamiya. He is an ordinary looking boy. Very nice and polite. He, unlike all the other males around him, believes that he should treat Marionettes with respect. So most of the guys think he's crazy for treating a machine like a human. One day he comes across an old Japoness history musuem where he discovers an old painting of Lorelei, one of the human females on board the space ship. While gazing at the painting, he accidently pushes a button which drops him to what seems like a secret underground room where he finds a marionette suspended in a chamber. He somehow awakens the marionette which surprisingly springs to life. This is no ordinary marionette however. This special marionette (who calls herself Lime) has maiden circuits which ables her to have emotions and feelings just like a regular human girl. Later on, Otaru awakens 2 other special marionettes - Cherry and Bloodberry. Since Otaru was the one to awaken them, they immediately love him and to protect them. They often get into fights over Otaru. But on top of that, they have to help Otaru and the emperor protect Japoness from the evil Faust of Germania.
This anime is unlike any anime I've ever seen! It's such a unique and fascinating story and the characters are all wonderful! Plus it isn't a cliche like Sailor Moon or Pockemon..etc.. - there's always something new you discover in every episode!
