Here are some pictures from our past. As they say, "a picture paints a thousand words". MOST of the buildings pictured here are still standing. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

The 1769 eight room home of Michael Lei was transformed into this 27 room mansion in 1883. George Washington stayed here three times. The bedroom stands intact on the second floor. (The last two windows to the right.) First in 1777 during his encampment at Valley Forge, second during his first administration as President to inspect the locks of the Union Canal and third in 1794, on his way to Western Pennsylvania to quell the Whiskey Rebellion.
Looking west at the intersection of Main and Railroad Streets which is the center of town. Taken in 1907, the Bahney House Hotel is on the left and on the right is the home and office of Dr. William Bower.
Same view 30 years later. We can see the Myerstown National Bank on the right and Stitzel's Drug Store next to it. The Bahney House Hotel, on the left, had become the Hotel Frantz.
Looking west at the intersection today. The building on the left is now called the Bahney House Restuarant and on the right is Northwest Savings Bank and True Care Pharmacy next to it.
Main Street looking east from Railroad Street in 1907. Levi Hess' Myerstown Department Store is on the right with the Frantz Bros. General Store and the Zion United Bretheran Church midway in the block. Charles Holtzman's Confectionary and a billiards parlor operated by the Salem brothers are on the left.
Same view 94 years later. On the left is Main Street Jewelry. Buy Rite Food Market is on the right (formally Myerstown Department Store) next to it Lindermuth's Stationary, C.R. Zinn Insurance. Midway in the picture, Zion United Bretheran Church has a new look.
Looking east of the Main and College intersection in 1908. On the right is Sherk's Saddlery which two years later became Myerstown National Bank. Lessig's Department Store occupied this building for several decades. Next to it is the Sherk Building which was the Myerstown Post Office before 1924. On the left, next to the limestone house (hidden by the tree) is Harry Fink's Grocery.
Same view in 2001. On the left, you can now see the limestone house which is occupied by the accounting firm of Good, Firestone and Remliger. On the right, the vacant lot was once the site of the Musser and Tice General Merchandise Store back in the early 1900's. The blue building is now J. William Reddinger Photography and two doors down is Roma Pizza.
Main Street looking west from College Street in 1909 when the Musser and Tice General Merchandise Store was located in the building to the left. After World War I, Charles and Tillie Line operated the store for at least 3 decades. Bickle's Schwinn Cyclery occupied this site also for many years and more recently Choice Video. Across the street is Issac Baheny's Furniture Store. Next to it is the Franklin House, which was one of six hotels in town during that year.
Bahney House Hotel in 1910. The building to right was the "new" location of the Albert Nye's Cigar and Tobacco Shop. Note the horse stables to the rear of the hotel on Railroad Street. The omnibus operated by Charles Schaeffer is located in the center of the picture.
