Myerstown can boast some large manufacturing industries. Some of them are Bayer, a pharmaceutical corporation, Quaker Alloy, a manufactuer of steel, nickel and copper-nickel based castings and recently Elk Corporation of Texas. a manufacturer of roofing shingles.

But the largest industry in the area is agriculture. The countryside is abundant with many farms. Some of them can date back to the 1700's. The rich, fertile soil here is ideal for farming. The German architecture of the barns and homes add to the picturesque view of the rolling fields.

Even though the Amish make up a small part of the community, it is interesting to see them farm their land as they did in the 19th Century. Just to watch them cultilvate their fields, one can feel as if they were "caught in time".
