Sprig
of Acacia Lodge #93, Tong-Du-Chon, Korea, District #10, MWPHGL of
Washington and its Jurisdiction have been working hand in hand with the
American Christian Academy (ACA) located in its community. The ACA is a
private school for Amer-Asian children with single parents. The school
is located in the community of Sprig of Acacia lodge #93. Sprig of
Acacia has been there for the ACA for many endeavors and much support.
It
has been fifty years since Korean War ended. But still the issue of
Amerasians in Korea is not getting much attention in this society. They
have become the forgotten ones. Their life in Korea is truly a difficult
one. Most of them were born without a father, and their mothers cannot
adequately support them. What makes their life even more difficult is
the discrimination by other Koreas because of their
"mix-blood" status. It is difficult for Amerasians to be fully
accommodated in society with human dignity. We are told that the
grownups live in hiding while the children are being mocked everyday.
The
Amerasian Mission Center was founded in 1993 to meet the needs of
Amerasian children in Korea. Through Foster, Immigration, Counseling,
and Educational program, we hope to build and provide better environment
for them.
In
1999, Amerasian Mission Center founded Amerasian Christian Academy to
educate the children for better future. The school is located in
Dongduchon City where Camp Casey is located. The school currently has 35
students and is still ran by its founder, Mr. James Kang-McCann.
On
November 3, 2000 the school hosted a Fall Festival for the children. The
fall festival was an evening carnival to celebrate the changing season.
The officers and members of Sprig of Acacia were on hand to help prepare
and serve the meal. After dinner the children performed numerous singing
and dancing acts for the enjoyment of the community. At the conclusion
of the ceremony the members of Sprig of Acacia presented the school with
a donation for supplies needed by the students. After the performance
the carnival began. Sprig of Acacia members assisted in setting up the
games, assisting the children and awarding prizes for all of the
children.
More
recent endeavors from Sprig of Acacia include purchasing and presenting
Christmas gifts for the ACA's Christmas party. Also another cash
donation was given at a Black History Prayer Breakfast on 19 February
2001 located at Camp Casey, Korea. Sprig of Acacia also continues to
give monthly donations to the school. By supporting this organization
Sprig of Acacia Lodge #93 is truly supporting the community in which the
Lodge thrives.
