When Wesley Wyndam-Pryce first arrived in
Sunnydale to be Watcher to Slayers Buffy Summer and Faith Lehane, he was
completely unprepared for life on the Hellmouth. Within months he faced
an unorthodox Slayer in the form of Buffy, constant resistance from
Giles and Buffy's other friends, interference from Angel and a rogue
Slayer in the forum of Faith. If that was not enough, there was also an
apocalypse on the way. During the Mayor's Ascension, Wesley elected to
forget about protocol and aid the Slayer, but was knocked unconscious
during the fight. Fired by the Watcher's Council, Wesley ended up in Los
Angeles as a rogue demon hunter, and became entwined in a case with
Angel and Cordelia. Needing a purpose, Wesley aided Angel until he was
given a job and remained with Angel Investigations for years. A year and
a half after joining them, Wesley fell in love with Fred Burkle, but was
forced to leave her behind when she chose Charles Gunn instead and when
he betrayed Angel by kidnapping his baby son Connor and taking him to
Daniel Holtz. For his trouble, Wesley was injured and left for dead, and
rejected by his friends. Eventually, Wesley reunited with Angel to fight
the apocalypse, and afterwards became head of research at Wolfram and
Hart after Angel assumed control. Fred finally fell for his charms and
the pair were united at last. Unfortunately, their happiness was
short-lived, as Fred was killed by the rising of the demon Illyria.
Illyria walked and talked liked Fred and even resembled her, and Wesley
took it upon himself to aid the helpless demon cope in a new and strange
world. When the group went up against the Circle of the Black Thorn,
Wesley was killed by Cyvus Vail, but before he died, he allowed Illyria
to impersonate Fred so that he could remember his one, true love.
