After the disaster that was the
1992 movie, creator Joss Whedon was approached by FOX to recreate his
creation on the small screen. After painful auditions and several cast
changes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired in May 1997 on the WB
Network. The show followed the Slayer, Buffy Summers who, aided by her group
of 'Slayerettes,' battled the forces of evil from atop the Sunnydale
Hellmouth, located underneath the local high school.
In 2001, the show relocated to the UPN Network, and continued for a further
two seasons. In 2003, Joss Whedon and his star, Sarah Michelle Gellar,
called it a day and Buffy the Vampire Slayer went out with a bang,
leaving spin-off series Angel to continue the franchise.
