CUTTING EDGE: MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY Cricket legend Javed Miandad has finally come up with an autobiography that is full of his achievements and the controversies he has involved with. Coauthoured by renowned Physician Saad Shafqat, Cutting Edge: My autobiography starts and ends in Miandad's batting style. It commences the way he started his innings, defensively. In the middle, the approach of the book changes to offensive while towards the end, it is as open as Javed Miandad was on the opposing bowlers in the dying moments of the match. All those who remember his last-ball six at sharjah and his brilliant batting display in the 1992 world cup now that these comments mean that this book is something special. It has a foreword from former English captain Tony greig who played alongside Miandad in the world series and country circuit. Although in its 23 chapters the book covers most of the aspects of Miandad's personal life and cricketing career, it has some distinguishing and some not-so-distinguishing features. Miandad discusses issues like his missing a tripple century, his retirement, his relationship with imran khan "in one-full chapter", his famous row in the 1992 world cup with Kiran More, his experience with uncle Carry Pecker and his trip to Brunei, while he doesn't clarify his position on topics like his reasons for resigning as the national coach before the 1999 world cup and his on-the-field clash with Denis Lillee in Australia in the early 1980's. Considering the book as Doctor Shafqut's maiden attempt, cutting edge show has an edge over others. Had it been well-dramatized like Fazal mehmood's autobiography from "Dusk to dawn", also an Oxford publication, it would have been far superior. On the whole, it is a must-read for Miandad fans and followers as it features a lot of advices and would go well for cricket lovers and followers of the Overall Diya

MOVIE REVIEW OF "JOHNNY ENGLISH” If you like Mr. Bean and Blackadder, you should check out Johnny English. Rowan Atkinson, who played those beloved characters, spoofs James Bond as the incompetent accident-prone MI-7 agent Johnny English. He is so uncool; he makes Austin Powers seem debonair. Although the film is poorly written and very clichéd, Rowan Atkinson is so funny; you just can't help but laugh. Even when the spoof is stupid, or the joke plain tired, Atkinson simply has to raise his eyebrows or make one of his calf-eyed expressions, and you'll smirk at least. English is a bumbling British secret service, bureaucrat who becomes the nation's top spy when the rest of the agents are detonated at a top-secret spy convention. Instead of Spy-Kids, think Spy Idiot. John Malkovich calls upon English to recover the crown jewels from French villain and super-snob Pascal Sauvage played. And, of course, get the girl. Aussie soap star turned pop star Natalie Imbruglia has that token role. While Atkinson posses’ enviable, comic timing and a memorable screen presence, the film is mediocre at best. Unfortunately, Johnny English lacks the originality and sharp timing of Austin Powers and none of the genuine glamour of the bond films. It relies on Atkinson for every moment of fun, and while he delivers his best, the weak script and hackneyed plot cant save this sinking ship. Britain’s secret service may be desperate enough to call on Johnny English, but most viewers probably won't be. Unless you are a die dash hard Atkinson fan, you'd be better off watching a Mr. Bean or a Blackadder rerun. CAN THE MATRIX BE REAL ? ACCORDING to Nick Bostrom, The Matrix could be far closer to reality then most of us would like to imagine. Though a variety of statistical methods, the Yale professor has proved that, out of a list or related probabilities, the world could well be a simulation. But how much of Nick’s theory coincide with the subliminal Wachowski movie? Here are a couple of comparisons. Are we just humans connected to a system or just a couple of billion programs running in cohesion? According to Nick the probability that we are programs is slightly higher than that of being humans plugged into a system. But the argument rises over the usefulness of such programs? Apparently we are doing nothing more than polluting the seas, dirtying the land and consuming more resources than we require. So the probability of being post humans linked into a “program reality” is higher keeping in mind the sheer human lust for entertainment. Thus the matrix’s prognosis that human minds need to be kept busy in order to reach optimal throughput would well be true. CAN WE UNPLUG? Answer: Apparently there is absolutely no way to unplug out of program reality. But there are several assumptions surrounding the process of unplugging. Dying could be one of the ways a mind becomes free, allowing either a deletion of a program or a restart of a human subject. The infamous “light at the end of the tunnel” might just be a method to start rejecting a subject out of the program. On the other hand, sleeping could be a temporary method of getting unplugged, allowing the human mind to come back to its regular environment in order to normalize the chemical reactions in the brain. Thus dreams could really be just blurred out representations of the “true reality” that the program distorts in order to keep the illusion of the “fake reality”, ironically, true. As Morpheus said in the first matrix, “How could you know that you were in a dream if u never woke up?” DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE? Answer: The Matrix emphasized on the theory that once your mind truly believed that the world was just an overly complex illusion, you could reject the laws of the system. All laws of physics, chemistry, biology, etc, would no longer be applicable on you. This sounds tragically false. For example, one of you after reading this story , starts believing that this world is nothing but a test and jumps off his roof, hoping against hopes that he would start flying. Rest assured that you will fall flat on your face, and would also break all the bones in the process. But what about “backdoor processing?” “Administrator rights?” the very structure that powers our current computer systems could very well be the essence of the programs we are living in. Maybe some people do have these secret administrator rights. The agents in “The Matrix” had all the administrator rights to go around flying and morphing in to any and everything present inside the program. So if someone does unplug, finds a way around “program reality” and manages to capture a couple of the administrator rights, could very well be in pretty good shape, to say the least. There have always been rumors surrounding supernatural phenomena. Ghosts far stronger and faster then the average man, spirits taking over human bodies, vampires jumping from roof to roof, etc. there have also been stories about men doing things that deny all laws of physics. We have all heard stories saints that were powerful enough to blow apart mountains with a single twitch, men of religion that were stronger than army of a thousand strong men. But as with all rumors, these claims remain without substantial proof or hard evidence. But what prevents them to be true is just another question in this hierarchy of queries. All of these comparisons could very well be false, just another series of baseless ideas based upon other ideas. What ever the truth might be, rest assured that an army of robots using us as pencil cells is not governing us. Overall Diya

MUSIC REVIEW OF THE ALBUM "SUNO KE MAIN HUN JAWAN" NOORI Noori, rightly called and acclaimed the hearthrob of August, came up with a splkash with their album " Suno ke Mein hu Jawan". The dynamic Do'o of the three band members is the perfect one to make you rock. As far as the songs are concerned then it caters to a particular class of people, that is your grand mother and grand father will not be able to understand their music, if you are a person who likes soft music then there are only one two songs for you "Manwa Re" and " Hum Bhooley " and if you are a hardcore rock fan and have their aggressive spark in your mind then you should definitely go for it !!!! the songs in the album are brilliant my personal favourites are Dil ki qasam, Jana tha humne, hum bhooley and neend aye na.
