When I got to his office, it turned out that I didn't even need the keys. The door had been forced open. I carefully walked in and saw that the place was trashed. Poor Tex. Everything he owned was scattered about the room. It would probably take an entire hour to clean it all up. Well, I decided to help him out when he got back.
His vidphone was flashing that it had a message. I opened it and discovered white dust all over the keypad. Apparently the police had gone through his place, too. I played the message and saw a familiar face across the screen. It was my brother's.
"Hey, Tex. I got some information that could help us out. Meet me in your office at midnight tonight." The message was dated two days ago--the night of our date.
What was the meaning of this? Why wouldn't Tex tell me that he was working on a case with my brother? Did he know it was my brother? I hadn't ever introduced them; Chance was one of those siblings you'd just as soon forget you had. And it almost worked, too, until he decided to call Tex and I up and get us involved in something we didn't need in our lives.
I searched the rest of the room, but didn't find anything of particular interest. With exception to the Playbub magazines in his top drawer. I'd have to ask him about those later.
     I didn't search the room very throughly, but then again, I wasn't a P.I. (Maybe I should give the room a once-over before I leave--go to 5.)
I've seen all there is to see. I think it's time to give Chance a call. (Leave the room--go to 6.)
