I immediately dialed Malden's number. He looked surprised, and I gave him all the information I had. He was appreciative and said he would call me right away when he knew more. I stayed home and treated myself to some chocolate ice-cream I still had in my freezer. Later on I got a call from my mom saying that Chance was dead, too. What a rough day. I tried to get some more sleep, but it was difficult. I was too grief-stricken. Mac did call back saying they had Dalton in custody. Later on, they held him in court and managed to like him to Tex's and Chance's murders, even though he pleaded not-guilty to both. He was given life in prison, and I feel safer knowing he's behind bars now. I try to move on, but it's hard. I ended up moving to live closer to my mom; she's been real supportive and we comfort each other. Every now and again I even date, but it never amounts to anything because my heart's still tied to Tex. I got a decent job at the local newspaper as a weekly columnist. I offer advice, share recipes, and write up specials on happy things like adopted puppies and high school sports. It isn't exactly what I had in mind, but then again, I guess that's how life is. The End (Not satisfied? Go back to 1.) |
