West River Mural Co. Tour

Barbizon Hotel, N.Y., NY
I painted this ceiling in the lobby of the Barbizon Hotel in Manhattan. This work was done in 1993. The actual size of this work is 12'x22'. The architectural border is part of the painting, not the actual ceiling, which is perfectly flat. Parts of this work are airbrushed, while other parts are done by hand. Because of this being a heavily trafficked area as much work as possible was done in the studio on large canvas and then installed onto the ceiling later.
I  also did the lobby rendering for the interior designer who I subcontracted the mural work from.
Aside from the mural I also did extensive marbleizing throughout the lobby and into the mezzanine. This was a very successful job. I competed for this job through the bid and design, which I provided, and won the contract.

Architectural detail is part of the painting, not the actual ceiling.
This photo of the work in progress should give you a better idea of the actual space. This painting, from conception of the design to the finishing of the ceiling took a good few months. I actually only spent two weeks with it in the hotel itself however since most of the work had been previously completed in my shop.
This painting was done as a backdrop for a wedding reception at the Commonwealth Club here in Richmond, VA. It now resides at the newlyweds' beach house. This work was subcontracted locally through an interior designer. The design is in part the client's ideas, the interior designer's ideas and a little bit of my own input to pull it all together. Actual size is 7'6"x 4'6". On canvas for portability.
This is a detail from a painting that was done locally for a private client. It is a reproduction of Leonardo Da Vinci's 'Last Supper'. On canvas, it measures 3'x7' to fit perfectly  above the chair rail in the dining room. The client was ecstatic about this piece. He had looked for a nice reproduction of this painting for years and finally commissioned me to do this one.
This painting was sold to an art gallery in Sarasota, Florida. It didn't last long in the window. Actual size is 3'x4'. In between jobs I fool around with my own little projects like this one. To view more paintings click here.
