EXERCISE ROUTINE Like many others, I started working out with weights while in high school. In the beginning I made amazing gains, gains that eventually plateaued and led to a lot of frustration. My college days saw me combine a busy school schedule and a healthy social appetite with hap- hazard workout routines. Sure enough, when I graduated I hadn't really progressed from when I started out four years ago. After following the exercise routines of numerous "Mr. Olympia bodybuilders", I came across Steward McRoberts' "Brawn". I won't go into the details of this book because in all fairness if you really want to grow bigger, you have to do yourself a favor and buy this book. It is a goldmine of information not only on the human body but also on the human mind. It will put you in the mindset needed for a hardgainer to grow. From this book, I figured out the following: - What exercises you do is MUCH more imporrratant that how many exercises or reps or sets you do. Bottom line, focus on the big compound movements. - Make the SQUAT the core exercise of your workout routine. Learn to do it right, do it once a week and keep adding the pounds. - Don't sweat the small stuff. So forget abbout those isolation exercises; no more tricep extensions or puny dumbell curls. - Keep an exercise log. It is extremely impportannt to keep track of your workouts. This will help you chart your progress and make changes in order to keep the size and strength gains coming. - Don't forget the cardio. It is also imporrtant to do cardiovascular exercises, both for the heart and in burning excess calories. EXERCISE ROUTINE What types of exercises to do? How many reps? How often? How many sets?
