| Our daily math routine consists of: Calendar Time: Calendar is done in the am with Mrs. Davey. Calendar time contains a lot of math learning and serves as an introduation to many math concpets that will be taught throughout the year. Click for more calendar information and photos of what was included when I taught calendar.. Mental Math: For the first 15 minutes every afternoon students participate in mental math. It is oral math that involves thinking about math concepts. So far we have practiced counting on, counting back, number recognition and estimation during our mental math time. Numeracy: Every afternoon we do some work with counting or number recognition. Our focus so far has been to recognize and represent the numbers from 1 - 100. We have also been counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. Math Facts: We have completed addition to 10 and have begun working on basic subtraction. Each afternoon we do a worksheet to practice our facts. A home flash card program has also begun. Students practice recalling the fact families as quickly as possible. I then test them on their facts and decide whether they are ready for the next family. It is an opportunity for children to advance at their own pace. Testing days are day 3, 4, and 5. |
