| The Archbishop is the Pastor of the people of the Roman Catholic Church throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit. The current Archbishop of Detroit is Adam Cardinal Maida who has served as Archbishop of Detroit since 1990. The Archbishop of Detroit is also a Cardinal Priest of the Church. The title, "Cardinal" is given to special advisors who the Pope personally selects to help him in leading the world-wide Church. The Cardinals also meet and elect from among themselves a new Pope when the current Pope dies. |
