Class Expectations

Welcome to Hewlett High School and Global History! The Global History curriculum is divided into two years. Upon the completion of 10th grade you will be required to take and pass the New York State Regents Exam in Global History. This test is cumulative and will cover all content learned during 9th and 10th grades. As you can see, there is a tremendous amount of material that must be covered. Therefore there will be certain expectations that must be met in order for you to be successful in class. These expectations are detailed below.

Attendance: All students are expected to be class. Cutting is a serious offense and will not be tolerated. Should you be absent you are responsible for making up missed work in a reasonable amount of time. Please make sure you get at least two (2) classmate’s phone numbers so you can call them to find out what you missed should you be absent. Hewlett High School adheres to the 80% attendance policy. Should you miss more than 20% of class you will be denied credit for the course (DCA).

Lateness: Class begins when the bell rings. At that time you should be in your assigned seat and ready to work with you notebook, pen and textbook if requested, and the homework from the previous night.

Homework: Homework is generally assigned every evening. All students are required to neatly complete the assignments on loose-leaf paper.

Homework is due the day after it is assigned, unless I tell you otherwise. Homework is considered late if it is not turned in when it is requested. Late homework will be accepted no later than 1 full day after it was due. Late homework will receive no greater a grade than a check minus. Homework will be graded as follows:

CHECK PLUS         = 100%

CHECK                   = 80% , NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

CHECK MINUS        = 60%, VERY POORLY DONE

INC                         = INCOMPLETE, RE-DO

You may not copy answers directly out of the book. All answers must be in your own words. Organization, grammar and spelling counts! You MUST answer the questions in complete sentences.

***Homework will represent 2O% of your test grade. Every missed homework assignment will result in 5 points being deducted from your test grade for that unit! If you miss 4 homework assignments the highest grade you may receive on the test is an 80. The most points you could lose for missed homework on any test is 2O points.

Tests: Test will be given at the end of each unit and will be announced at least 4 days in advance. The tests will be based on class notes, lectures, activities, and homework. The tests will include multiple choice questions, document-based questions (DBQ's) and essay questions.

Quizzes: Every night there is homework, there is the possibility that a quiz will be given the following day. The quizzes will relate to the assignment studied the previous night in the homework.
