Overview

Beowulf is a wonderful tale. It is simply written, yet it makes you feel as if you were right there. It details the adventures of a sixth century Scandinavian, who on his quest for fame and fortune encounters many monsters and is beset by many woes. When he comes through it all, he becomes legendary and is granted many extrordinary; legends of him fill the land.
In relatively rescent years many translations (from
Old English to modern English and other languages )of Beowulf have been published. All of these highlight the fabulous acts of the sixth century warrior in his strougle against his times. It is an incredible story that is well worth notice. Some even call it a classic of British liturature, and put it into the same catagory as Shakespear, Dickens, or Kipling. And certainly many notable authours have been deeply influenced by this heroic story, including my favorites Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.
