Old English is sometimes thought of as a peice of liturature with many old time words, such as "thee" and "thy" and only used in Shakespeare and the KJV, however this websight uses a differant definition of "Old English". The term "Old English" is used by scholars to describe the very early forms of English, not strange words. It is also known as Anglo-Saxon and was used in Northern Europe from about the fifth century to the twelfth century. You may have heard of Middle German. Middle German is not German, as you think of it, it is a much older form of the language that no one speeks any more but that led to the formation of the modern language you know today.
