Wesley is almost out the door,
all decked out for a hot date, when George and Marsha ground him for
taking pictures of Grandma Hufnagel in her therapy pool. Wesley is
sent to his room, and told to stay while George and Marsha go out
for the evening. With Mr. Belvedere in charge, Wesley tries to bribe him
with a carton of Scooter Pies. But Mr. Belvedere stands firm.
Unable to resist temptation, Wesley
bypasses Mr. Belvedere's alarm system and climbs out the window. Mr.
Belvedere stops by his room to offer him some hot cocoa and discovers Wesley
has flown the coop. With no other transportation other than Marsha's
Porsche, Mr. Belvedere takes it to hunt Wesley down. Sneaking back in just
as George comes into his room, Wesley pretends to be asleep and was in
bed all night. George tells Wesley that Mr. Belvedere got in a car accident
and is at the hospital in a coma. Wesley feels guilty for the accident
and refuses to visit Mr. Belvedere, keeping the reason why a secret.
With Mr. Belvedere lying unconscious
in bed, his spirit leaves his body. Escorted by an Angel which looks
alarmingly like Angela, Mr. Belvedere is taken to a way station above the
clouds, until God decides if he will live or die. Told by the Angel he
will live if he can prove his presence on earth will do some good, Mr.
Belvedere shows the Angel what the Owens home would be like without him.
But instead of the chaotic, disorganized family he envisioned, the Angel
shows him how they will adjust without him.
Seeing how he will not be missed,
Mr. Belvedere is ready to die. Wesley pulls himself together and visits
Mr. Belvedere in the hospital. Hoping he will be able to hear him,
Wesley apologizes and promises to be good if only he will live. That being
what Mr. Belvedere needed to continue living on earth, his eyes suddenly
open, as Wesley gives him a joyous hug.
Angel/Angela - Michele Matheson
Dr. Mifune - Haru Aki
Cigarrete Girl - Cathy McAuley
Spot - Simon
One of my favorite episodes.
It's quite serious, but never too serious that all sense of humor is lost.
Mr. Belvedere's idea of what the Owens will be without him was simply hilarious.
Acting wise, Brice Beckham shines in this episode, playing a guilt ridden
pained boy quite effectively. Plus, it's quite refreshing to see
Angela play someone smart. Mr. Belvedere's disbelief at this version of
Angela is priceless.
