Day 5

Botlierskop Game Reserve

We left Hermanus early as we’ve been scheduled for a game drive at Botlierskop, which is about 3-4 hours drive.  We decided to take the fast N2 and were advised by our host to drive to Caledon for its superb scenery, which will connect us to N2. Though the vineyards view was beautiful, half the road was not tarred and that kind of slowed us down. Once we hit N2, it was just a cruise.  We passed by the historic town of Swellendam, the magnificent Langeberg and finally stopping by Albertinia to get some aloe-Vera products.  After all, it’s the home of South Africa’s aloe industry.  We continued our way to Mossel Bay, which according to the maps is where the Garden Route begins.  Here the N2 runs closer to the coast and once can see the lushness plain.  We turned off at George to head towards Botlierskop.  Authentic South African food was served at Botlierskop Game Farm.  Our 3 hour guided tour began after lunch and blessed with great diversity of habitat and wildlife, it was great experiencing close encounters with rhinos, lions, giraffes, rare black impala, mountain zebras, etc.
