| MarianneTurner has evolved the practice and philosophy of Motherhand Shiatsu during her sixteen years of practice and teaching in and around New York City. Although she studied shiatsu for three years at The Shiatsu Education Center of America, what is now known as The Ohashi Institute, it was the introduction to Zen Buddhism to her practice in 1983 that began her pursuit of shiatsu as a spiritual rather than a clinical practice. In 1990 she was ordained in New York City as an Interfaith Minister, and she has since proceeded to cultivate her practice as a ministry of interfaiths. | Kelli DeFlora began studying shiatsu with Marianne at The New York Open Center in 1989. She was among the first to receive a Certificate of the Completion of Studies from the newly founded Motherhand Society in 1991. She was also ordained as an Interfaith Minister in New York City in 1993 and has been practicing shiatsu and has begun teaching Motherhand Shiatsu under Marianne's tutelage. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sr. Valorie Lordi of Dominican Sisters in Sparkill began her studies with Marianne also at The New York Open Center in 1989. She received her Certificate of the Completion of Studies from the Motherhand Society in 1992. She has taken her practice out into the community of The Dominican Sisterhood, introducing it as a spiritual practice all over the country. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
