Track 15: Zaccheus
Verse 1: Zaccheus was a wee little man, as wee as he could be. Even with high heels on, he stood all of four-foot-three. He collected more than the fair tax, gypping friends and enemies. He even charged outrageous fares driving a Jericho taxi. Chorus: Hurry, come to Me. With you I want to stay. Hurry, come to Me, and I'll never go away. Verse 2: Although Zaccheus was quite rich, his life was in a mess. No peace had he even though he was head of the local IRS. But Jesus was a passing through. So that he could see best, Zaccheus climbed a sycamore and Jesus did the rest. Chorus Verse 3: In love Jesus looked up at him and called his name out loud. Zaccheus answered, "Jesus, I'll repay those I did defraud." The crowd said, "He's a sinner's guest, He's not as great as we had thought." But Jesus said, "I've come to seek and save that which was lost." Chorus

Notes Isn't the mention of a male Zaccheus wearing high heels a little controversial for a Christian song? I think it's there--well, first of all, to exaggerate his shortness--but also to depict the extravagance of the super-wealthy before their lives are changed by Christ. Did you buy that? I just made up that rationalization on the spot. The extra-biblical quip about the outrageous fares Zaccheus charged while driving a Jericho taxi was inspired by a pricey taxi ride I took in Boston in August 2004. Read the real story of Zaccheus in Luke 19:1 - 10.
