District 1850
My host district are very organized, just like district 9800 back home.
We went to an orientation day in Oldenburg in early February and met all
of the other “newbies” and a few of the people who had been
here for 5 months or so already. Everyone was very welcoming and don’t
you worry they definitely went through the rules again! (we were told
about rules for about 3 or so hours…) I traded all of my pins with
other inbounds, and received many pins which was great, although I’m
an exchange student so I’m not allowed to say I’ve got enough!
Afterwards we went into central Oldenburg and found a pub and there I
got to know a lot of the other exchange students better, although most
of the new arrived kids went home straight after.
There are 6 Australians in
this district and many many South Americans/Mexicans and I am led to believe
by one of the USA inbounds that there are around 30 Americans here. So
far I have met around 10 so I don’t quite know what all of the others
do, or if they exist at all!
My host club
My host club,
the Rotary Club of Brake (Unterweser) is the only rotary
club in the direct area, and has around 30-40 people turning up for every
meeting. It is fairly relaxed, the restaurant we are in is very nice and
has a view over the river Weser on which a fair few ships travel up and
down, some fairly large on their way to Bremen. I had my first meeting
on Monday the 6th of February and me and the other recently arrived exchange
student from South Africa, Renee, received a great welcome and handed
over our sponsor clubs banners. There are three inbounds in my club, Rene,
me and Apeksha from India who arrived in September of 05.
The Rotary Club of Brake meets
every Monday evening at 7pm in the Linne restaurant in downtown Brake,
next to the Shiffartsmuseum.
They also have a new website
here
and I think there are pics of the 3 exchange students in the club at the
moment, including me.
