It goes without saying that any halfway decent roleplaying community will come complete with rules.
1. Note that there is no minimum posting length here anymore. We have decided that it is simply not necessary, and we trust you guys to do your thing and post long, descriptive posts. Also, minimum posting lengths in the rules is like saying its Okay just to post six sentences all the time. Anyways, know that we love lengthy, descriptive posts - and people will be more likely to reply to a long ad well thought-out post than to a short and basic one.
2. All players must be Thirteen years of age or older. EzBoard has its own rule that you cannot create an account unless you're over the age of thirteen. We won't report you to ezboard, but we ask that you do not join this board unless you're over thirteen. There is a slight exception to this. See the FAQ if you are under 13 and still wish to join the board.
3. No characters may be half-anything unless first consulting with administration and providing details. This means no, you may not be part demon, werewolf, SUPER SAIYAN OMG! etc. However, there are exceptions: a) if it has to do with plot/history of a canon character (ie- Lupin), b) if you discuss it with an admin and explain why you want/have to play this character.Only the very best applications will be accepted after this. See the FAQ for more details.
4. You may play out your own subplots as you wish, but inform administration of any and all major things regarding your plots as they affect characters and possibly the main plotlines. If you wish to become involved in any main plots, contact administration with an idea pertaining to said plot. Main plots that may arise will be completely secret except to admins, so you will not be given many details about it. Therefore, many people wanting to become part of the main plot should have a few ideas for subplots. If we think it can work, these subplots may be written into the main plots. Note: There may not be main plotlines, but we will keep you posted.
5. Nobody may be related to a canon character (someone from the books or movies) without first discussing the relationship with the person playing said canon, as well as administration. Just because one approves, does not mean the other will. Be prepared for rejection. This does not include canon relations such as Ginny and Ron, however. If you wish to have a history with a canon, such as being old friends, you must again discuss the matter with the appropriate member. In this case, administration needs to be informed, but will not be involved in the decision-making process. This is left to the discretion of the member playing the canon, but admins may intervene if they see fit reason to do so when they are informed; ie. if it will interfere with the plot.
6. No slander against other members Out of Character will be tolerated. At all. In-Character, we don't care as characters will likely develop enemies and have their own opinions. But when it is taken out of the game itself, and becomes a direct vendetta against one of our members, a line has been crossed. Warning - this will be one of the most strictly-enforced rules, so do not break it! If you feel that you are being treated badly by someone else, please alert an admin right away and we will look into it. We want everyone to have a fun time and not to get harassed or upset.
7. Nobody is perfect, keep that in mind. We will have no Mary-Sues! Everyone has flaws, whether they be physical, mental, emotional, etc.
8. NO Godmoding or Power playing. At all. You can control NPCs (like random non-canon students that nobody is playing), but not fellow Characters, unless: a: They are yours, b: you have the permission of the person that plays them. When fighting, dueling, etc. etc., you must give your opponent a chance to react. People who constantly break this rule will be warned, then temporarily banned. If it continues, they may find themselves permanently banned from the board.
9. If you are dropping the RPG, then let us know--this way we can delete your membership and start finding replacements. If you are able to access a computer to tell us you're leaving, then do so. If you are having computer difficulties, this is understandable, but you will need to resubmit your character's bio if you do not post somewhere on this board for two weeks.
10. The posting format of this board, is past-tense, third person. Please post this way always, unless you're out of character!
11. Personal pictures. No excessively sized personal pictures, please! If the admins feel that your characters pictures are way too big we will let you know! We ask that you keep the width at or below 120 pixels, and don't make the height too large. Also, keep the size of your signature down. We dont want to have our threads taking ages to load because your pictures are twice the size of your actual post.
12. If you are going away for an extended period of time, let us know in the Announcements area! If you know this ahead of time, be sure to remove your characters from any threads unless you would like them to be NPC'd.
13. It would be wise for you to make a hard copy of your bios so that if you are away for a long amount of time and your bios have been removed, then you can resubmit your character bios and pick up where you left off.
14. No pitching the Admins/Moderators against one another. This means no going to one admin/moderator for something, not getting the answer you want, and then going to ask another admin/moderator the same thing. Also, if you have a problem with one Admin/Moderator, talk to THEM about it.
15. NO, I repeat NO characters that have been ripped from popular tv shows such as DBZ or something to that effect. This will get you laughed at by the administration and probably a lot of the members as well..
16. You must post at least once every two weeks per character! This is a must!(Unless you supply the admins with a reason as to why: vacation, college, etc. Random disappearances make me us cry!) If you fail to continue posting once every two weeks your bio will be moved into the 'characters pending deletion' forum and will remain there for one week--if the character is not reclaimed, then the admins will assume that your interest in the board has diminished and your membership will be deleted, along with your character bios.
17. Skills such as martial arts are fine for discipline (history with it and reasons why must be explained in the bio) but if students are kicking the shite out of other students for fun, your post will be deleted without warning. Outside as part of a friendly environment/solo training is fine.
18. When you have submitted your bio and it has been accepted it is your responsibility to post your character's name under the appropriate class lists of the classes they will be taking! It is not anyone Else's! (unless Sia is feeling generous.)
19. Use the application provided!!! One of the most irritating things as an admin is to come across an application for our board that has been just copied from another board. We have our own application layout for a reason, people!
20. For the love of God, post in third person, past tense! None of that present tense nonsense please. You do NOT know how irritating that is! Only ever post in present tense if you're doing a dream-sequence or something, but even then, it is not always necessary.
21. If your thread begins (for the sake of argument) in the hallway, and your characters then move to the common room, you must leave an OOC note at the bottom as to where the thread will continue--this allows people to follow your threads and join in.
22. Administration reserves the right to add onto, take away from, or modify this list as we see fit. So always check back if this forum is marked as unread.
