In all started last year in november when my dream came true of owning my first car at the age of 13 people obviously gave me alot of putdowns, but dispite it all I'm and still building it strong!! It was a 1966 Volkswagen beetle, kind of a different can to do up to be a street machine but nether the less, lets start at the beginning!
I was looking around for a possible first car when a guy named Aaron Marquis said to me on the (topic of beetles) "I hate beetles, there crap, you cant hot a beetle up"... and later on in the convosation "and you can't make em run anything under 13 seconds at the drags (meaning quarter mile)" I had allways liked beetles they had a unique shape and alot could be done to them, so nearly in spite of Aaron I went in search of a beetle. Ideally looking for a 1947-1956 beetle, which were rare and even a bad one would set you back a couple of grand! So I just kept wishing and waiting for one to come up in the paper just hoping one would come up for my budget (about $250, not alot of money but wait)
My Dad was keen on me having a car, thinking it would be good hands on experience to own one, and secretly had a plan going. A local electrition name Kim Blackiston had an old wreck 1966 beetle in his yard. It was bought for a couple of hundred of dollars and left at his place. My Dad had gone to see it and was planning to bring it home as a suprise, but I was set on a 1946-1956 so he wasn't quite sure if it would be the right thing to do just yet.
One day dad had told me that he knew a beetle in town and we could go look at it (me still not knowing it was offered to us) we went and had a look. The car was abit of a bomb and in a bad state but had good panels, body and a great shape to it (still being an early beetle model.) When I saw it for the first time i instantly fell in love with it, but when i knew it was offered to me I nearly hit the roof. Kim had especially bought it down a week later on a trailor for me, and with a shake of his hand and a lot of thanks I now owned a 1966 Volkswagon Beetle.
That very evenoing, just after Kim dropped it off, my Dad left to go into town and I asked him if I could start on it. Dad told me, "sure, you can start windexing the windows and things like that." But cleaning windows wasnt quite what i had in mind, and as soon asd he left I began my own work.
