A LETTER OF THANKS

Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

This yet another e-mail sent by people who were stranded in Moncton for several days at the Moncton Coliseum as a result of the terrorist attacks on the United States. Again, I share this with all of you, in order to share my pride in being a Monctonian. Click below if you would like to read some of the other e-mails the Mayor of Moncton has received from grateful flight passengers who spent time in Moncton.

Mayor Murphy
September 17, 2001

I'm so thankful that our US AIR flight was diverted to your airport. I was on my way home from Holland thru Brussels when this tragedy occured, and your kind community was where I spent two and a half days trying to recover from the realities of the world we live in.

I will always hold your community in the highest regard for the way you took care of all us stranded flyers. Your emergency team did a unbelievable job of providing the assurance to all the travelers that they were safe to stay here within your community.

We were guests in your homes, your coliseum, your hotels, but we were treated as if we were family that you had not seen for some years. You gave us shelter, food, clothing, information, phones, medicine, but most of all our honor that we were Americans.

While I was waiting for the time when I could return to my love ones over a thousand miles a way, I acquired a sense that I belonged to your community.

I stayed at Hotel Moncton on Mountain Road, two nights. I walked to a shopping center about 4 KM down the road to pass the time away one evening. I purchased a few items that I needed and then walked back to the hotel. I passed several walkers and they all spoke to me, it made me feel safer then if I was home. The next morning after breakfast I walked up the road for about 30 minutes, then turned around to return to the hotel. Coming around a bend in the road I noticed down in the valley the beautiful city of Moncton, what a heart lifting site that was to me. The view of the city from up on the mountain was like a storybook view of the way life is foretold in children's books.

So after being so touched with your city being so full of good and beauty I'm back in the states hoping somehow the answers to these events our leaders work out for us will never disturb the peace and understanding your citizens have shown me while I was with you during a time of world
mourning.

God Bless Us All

Thank you
