What is a doula?
A doula is a professional labor assistant, trained to provide constant one-on-one support to birthing women and their partners or family.

What does a doula do?
-provides continuous support and encouragement to a woman in labor
-puts you and your comfort/wishes first
-if you have a partner, helps him or her know how to comfort you and meet your needs
-assists you in your birth preparation by providing information and practicing coping techniques
-teaches you about your options for birth, comfort measures and how to stay healthy
-provides massage, counterpressure, hot/cold packs, helps with position changes, visualization, and other wonderful comfort measures
-helps you to know how to talk to your caregivers so you get the information you need and are part of the decision-making team at your birth

Why should I have a doula at my birth?
Studies show that doula-attended births result in a 50% reduction in Cesearean birth, 30% reduction in requests for pain medication, 60% reduction in requests for epidual anesthesia, 25% decrease in length of labor, increased breatsfeeding success, reduction of medical costs and overall increased satisfaction with the birth experience.

What do the doula services include?

1. An initial interview - this helps me learn about you and your needs/wishes for your birth experience. This meeting is free and does not obligate you to choose me as your doula.
2. One to two additional prenatal meetings to share information, learn coping techniques and create a bond!
3. Unlimited phone/email support - call or write me anytime you need to talk.
4. Continuous support during your birth - I can meet you at your home or your birthplace, and will remain with you throughout your labor and birth.
5. 24/7 on-call support - two weeks prior to and after your estimated due date.
6. One to two postpartum visits - to make sure you are settling in well with your baby and help you with any other information or resources you might need.

How much does it cost?

The fee for doula services runs from $0-$500*, based on total household income. Emancipated minor moms are always free. Please
