My husband and I have thought about homeschooling ever since our first child was born. We began researching by going to the library and checking out books. I wish I had written down every title that I had read up until now. But there are a few that really stood out and that I can remember. So I will list the title, author and publisher and a short little review. Enjoy!

The Home School Manual - Theodore E. Wade and Others
This was the very first homeschooling book I read. I was kinda surprised to see it in the public library. It is chock full of editorials and stories written by some well known homeschool advocates. And it covers the many forms of homeschooling. There are appendices in the back that get you started. Resources for books, magazines, curriculum, lesson plans, and reproducible pages to copy and use right away.

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons - Siegfried Engelmann
I was a bit skeptical about buying this book even though lots of other homeschoolers were saying how good it was. I bought it and started using it and my 2 oldest girls couldn't put it down. They wanted to jump in and try and read the stories on their own! But we started at lesson one and continued on. The author said that most kids begin reading well before they finish the book. He was right! We didn't even finish the book, I am using it now for my 5 year old and will use it for my almost 4 year old son, when I think he's ready. This book really gives the child the necessary tools to sound out words and read. This book is easy for the parent who needs help teaching reading and phonics.

A Survivor's Guide to Home Schooling - Luanne Shackleford & Susan White
Just seeing the covre of this book assured me that everything was going to be alright! The writers use lots of humor along with lots of great advise and wisdom for the first-timer. And best of all, they put it all within a  Scriptural sense. The book covers, preventing burnout, home schooling more than one child, the husband's role, and scheduling.

Miserly Moms - Jonni McCoy
This is not a homeschooling book at all, but the subtitle says it all: Living on ONE Income in a TWO income Economy. A lot of families balk at homeschooling because of the fear of a loss of the second income. This book will give great advice. It's great for those of us who have always had the one income, but want to do better. This book covers everything, I highly reccomend it!
