BEGIN SPRING TRAINING 2004
The West Texas winds brought
in plenty of dirt and sand. The season also brings the beginning of
Spring Training practices. The weather failed to hinder Day One of
the three weeks allotted on Saturday. Workouts will continue through
May 20. The Black-White game will follow on Friday evening in
Ratliff Stadium.

FOOTBALL GREETS ROY WILLIAMS
On
April 24, former UT and Permian great Roy Williams was
drafted by the Detroit Lions. Blessed with a combination of size,
strength and speed, the sure-handed pass catcher used his body on numerous
occasions for the Longhorns. Williams (6'2" 210) does a great job of
adjusting to the ball in the air. He started 40 contests during his
career, shattering school career records with 241 receptions for 3,866
yards and 36 touchdowns, topping the old marks of 177 catches for 3,032
and 16 scores by Mike Adams (1992-96). He also caught at least one pass
in a school-record 47 consecutive games. Williams had at least four
catches in 39 games.

GIVE REBELS REALITY CHECK
Halloween Night, as if on cue, conjured up a little Mojo. The
Lee Webels came to Ratliff Stadium, only to find a horde of black cats
waiting. The game was simply dominated by Permian. It didn't
take long for Lee to understand this night would belong to Mojo.
The players were focused, the band played loud, and Lee got out-coached.
The most impressive part of the Mojo package came from a vocal crowd
spreading from end zone to end zone on the home side. From the
sideline, it was evident - there was unity and we all were on the same page. The Panther defense made it clear Lee's back Trent Hines was going to have to earn his yardage.
Permian took a 14-0 lead into the locker room. The Panthers went on
to win the contest 26-19, which easily could have ended 33-12.
