Senior running back Chad Thompson led the way on
offense. Thompson was second in the district in rushing with 1,127 yards.
The Panthers also had one first-teamer at every defensive position.

Colby Williams and defensive back Jermaine Harris also received first-team
honors. Mojo had nine second-team honorees, as Daniel Robles earned
honors as both kicker and punter. RB Bradley McDaniel, WR Drew
Peterson, TE J.J. Griffin, C Nick Oliver were selected on offense, while
DL Brian Foreman, LB Brandon Hillin, DB Jammal Johnson, and DB Jim Bob

FEELS LOSS OF PROMINENT VOICE
On
February 25, we lost Bill Sibley (better known as the "Voice of Mojo").
He began teaching at PHS in 1962. He began his career teaching
speech, drama and debate, leading generations of students to state level
competitions. He served for years as the halftime announcer for the
Pride of Pantherland - the Mojo Marching Band. By the 1970s, he was
the official Master of Ceremonies at every Permian High School graduation
commencement until his retirement from teaching in 1992. After he
retired, Sibley worked for the United States government at The Office of
Personnel Management. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends.

D
ANSWERS IN WIN OVER DAWGS
After
being accused of being suspect, the Permian defense answered when it
needed to, which resulted in a 20-14 victory over Midland High in Ratliff
Stadium. The Bulldogs were stopped cold in their tracks as they
neared the red zone on three occasions. The win improved the
Panthers' record to 2-1 in district play and 5-3 for the season.
GAME PICS VS MIDLAND
PANTHERS
FAIL TO SHUTDOWN COUGARS
The defenses of both
teams took a beating, especially in the fourth quarter, as the two teams
traded touchdowns in a period which produced 43 points. In a span of 90
seconds early in the fourth quarter, the Cougars and Panthers combined for
a total of 21 points. The two teams combined for 988 yards
of total offense. Cooper won the game
56-46.

LET
THE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SHINE
There will be a movie. Hollywood got their first
glimpse of Mojo Magic live against Odessa High. A film crew
associated with Peter Berg watched as Daniel Robles kicked the 31-yard
game winning field goal with just 30 seconds to play in regulation.
It was a solid effort displayed by both the offense and defense. The
first quarter ended PHS 7-3, but by the half it was OHS 17-14. The
coaching staff made the proper halftime adjustments resulting in the 24-23
victory.

HOMECOMING
ENDS IN VICTORY, 24-23
The Panthers celebrated breaking in the new Ratliff
Stadium turf and Homecoming all in one against Lubbock Monterey on
September 26. Permian controlled most of the action all night
long.

BETTER
CONDITIONING BEATS SANDIES, 28-21
It took the majority of the game to finally take the
lead and victory from the Sandies in Amarillo's Bivens Stadium. With
under five minutes to play, the
better conditioned Panthers took over and walked away victors of
the season's last non-district road trip.

WE
HAVE OUR WINNERS - MOJULE IS BACK
Over the weekend, we received three correct guesses in
the "Looking For Mojule" contest.
Kyle Hubbard, Janice Murrell, and Debbie Harkrider
successfully found Mojule in Lubbock's Jones Stadium watching Rusell
Wheatley's record 62 yard field goal, as Permian defeated Longview in the
1975 state semifinal game, 10-9. Thanks to the
many fans for your e-mails.

WEEK
TWO - FREEMAN RUNS WILD, 40-35
Brownwood's University of Miami bound quarterback did some damage in the
first half, but the Panthers stood their own in the second half.
Permian didn't win on the scoreboard, but they may have in several areas.
Mojo:
- seemed to be the better conditioned team in the last quarter.
- came back from a 34-14 deficit to close within a touchdown.
- did a good job with the "halftime adjustment"
There's progress being made - and the effects are reaching far beyond the
scoreboard... just give it a couple more weeks.
GAME STATS
WEEK
ONE - FOUR QUARTERS OF MOJO, 48-19
My how a week can make a difference. Penalty yards were cut in half,
28 points were scored in the second half, and the fans came out loud and
roaring. Coach Smith announced the program was on track at the
Booster Club meeting, and so is appears to be. Jammal Johnson set a
record for returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in a single game.
Chad Thompson ran for 137 yards, and Bradley McDaniel added 75 yards on
eight carries.
GAME STATS
STRONG
SECOND QUARTER FALLS SHORT, 49-21
Texas Stadium hosted the season opener between Permian and Copperas Cove on August
30. By the end of the first half, Permian sat on a 21-14
halftime lead. The Panthers struggled through the third quarter as
Copperas Cove unloaded a four-touchdown flurry on their way to a
victory. The Bulldawgs turned the tide on Permian, rolling up 160
yards of offense and scoring every time they got their hands on the ball.
The Panthers played a large part on the unraveling process with three
turnovers -- a fumble on a kickoff return, an interception, and a botched option pitch.

SPEECH SETS TONE OF FIRST MEETING
Tuesday night's season opening Booster Club meeting featured former
Permian mentor and Texas coaches hall of famer John Wilkins. He
spoke of many positives he could already see in the discipline, class, and
conditioning of the 2003 Panthers. Coach Smith took his turn at the
microphone, and the video highlights of the scrimmage against Lubbock
Coronado played to the conclusion of the meeting.
