I
have been teaching for over 26 years and have my A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory
of Toronto in piano pedagogy. I began music lessons when I was 8 years old on
the electric organ and studied mainly pop music of all ages.
My teacher was classically trained and a certified teacher in piano, which helped
very much when I began high school and started studying piano. I managed to
to get my grade 9 piano in 3 years of piano study, and although I took some
time off after that, I always knew I would return to finish my grade 10 and
A.R.C.T.
In
highschool I also played the flute and guitar, and played the flute in the school
band and the piano in the jazz band. When the electronic keyboard became more
popular than the organ I began playing that and have experienced great success
teaching that as well.
As computers became more popular, I began experimenting with that medium and
discovered that the computer would be a great asset in teaching music. I purchased
a Yamaha Clavinova, electric piano with midi compatibility, and useful software
so I could use the computer with the piano, which proved to be of great help
with students interested in pop music and all music in general.
This
software can also be used to create sheet music for the individual students,
when the music they want is unavailable otherwise. The sheet music I create
is often times much better than the sheet music that can be purchased at the
music store because it has been taken from the actual midi file, edited for
piano and sounds much closer to the original. I also create score music for
groups to play together, each with their own part.
I have enjoyed teaching students all the benefits of computer learning and all
the benefits that go along with computer use. I take a great amount of pleasure
from teaching classical and pop music to students of all ages.
