There are several villages in Naruto series which are Konoha or Hidden Village of Leaf, Hidden Village of Mist, Hidden Village of Sand, Hidden Village of Sound and Hidden Village of Rain.
Naruto and his friends are from Konoha or the Hidden Village of Leaf. This village has a hokage and so far it already has 5 hokages. It is once attacked by the Nine Tailed Fox Demon (kyuubi) thus destroying the village and killing many of the village's shinobi. All of the village's shinobi fight the demon including Naruto's parents. It was eventually defeated and the 4th hokage sealed into the newborn child which is Naruto. Very unfortunate for Konoha, the 4th hokage died after the fight and Sarutobi, The 3rd hokage ruled the village and killed by Orochimaru.
The Hidden Village of Mist is also referred to as the Bloody Mist Village due to its brutality. This is the village where Zabuza and Haku originated from before they abandoned the land. The way this village perform their exam for the children to become a Genin (lower ranked ninja) is rather different because they need to fight with his or her friend which they trained with- to death! But it has to change when a children called Zabuza killed 100 peers without hesitation.
The Hidden Village of Sand is one of the best 5 shinobi greatest in the country. Kazekage is the leader of this village and also the one who trained Gaara of the desert. This country has once planned to destroy Konoha by ganging up with the Hidden Village of Sound but it is foiled by the shinobi of Konoha, Orochimaru and that is when Sarutobi (the hokage of Konoha) and the Kazekage of the Hidden Village of Sand died.
The Hidden Village of Sound is created and formed by Orochimaru (the shinobi of Konoha) He is also one of the greatest and missing shinobi of Konoha. Although his true ambition are still very unclear but his goal is said to lead a civil war and has recently proved by attacking Konoha and the Hidden Village of Sand and has succesfully killed the hokage of Konoha but his hands are sealed by the hokage at the same time.
