Pilot Log Version 4.0

  • 12/11/2006
    Busy, busy, busy

    2006 will be going soon

I have been playing around with the D80 and it will get some time for me to get a hang of settings in P mode. But I like it best cause I have quite a bit of control over a wide range of parameters. The down side would be wrong setting will result in a blurry pictures. :p

I dropped my Surefire A2 the other day, broke the lanyard ring and pick some nicks on the side of the bezel :( The good news is that the light continue to work, no broken bulb. I have been toying with the idea of getting some Surefire C and M series parts and play "Surefire Lego" (put together 2, 3 maybe even 4 cells, C or M series with different extension, bezel, adaptors, etc). Haven't put my money down for any yet though.

The Citizen 200m lume dial diver is gone, as well as the Omega Seamaster GMT white dial (sold pending funds to clear). In return, I got a Citizen 1000m Titanium Profession Diver (NH6931-06E), aka Auto-Zilla, and also a Seiko Orange Monster with bracelet and rubber strap (too good of a deal to pass on and who can resist the lume :p). I also got a Casio Pathfinder atomic solar triple sensor in green (PAW1200-3V). Its very much a watch of jack of all trades. The long list of features include solar, atomic, time, alarm, world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, themometer, barmometer and altimeter. So, its a triple sensor that never need battery and will never off by a fraction of a second! That sounds good for me! :-)

And the NDS is keeping me pretty busy, too busy actually! I need more rest! :p

More things to buy, and money still doesn't grow on trees ... -_-

I just finished up my 2 weeks of vacation overseas. It was a great trip, got to meet a lot of friends and I had a blast! Visited a lot of old and new places. Having not to worry about work. I only need to worry about what to eat and where to go have fun. (ok, maybe a little more than that in reality :p ) I should definitely do it more often. lol :D

To my surprise, I didn't get any new flashlights nor watches during my trip (which I thought I would). Instead, I bought myself a Nikon D80 Kit and a set of Nitendo NDS lite.

I have always wanted a DSLR and the D80 fits my bill well. The auto mode does a decent job in most situation and I am still playing around with the programmable modes. I went with the lens kit because of the lower initial cost. I may eventually get a better lens (or 2 ;-) But for now, I want to wait until my skill out grown the lens.

I've been out of the video game world for quite a while. But the NDS lite is just too much fun (I mean so much fun), especially with wi-fi linked games. I was trying to decide between PSP and NDS and NDS won at last because of the games, and the touch screen adds a new touch to gaming.

It was a great trip for me. The only down side is that the trip is too short. :P (2 weeks were too short?! haha. ok, maybe when you add to function of keeping my job and income, 2 weeks were just right, haha)

Well, watches are coming in and going out. I just got a white dial version of Omega Seamaster Professional GMT with bracelet. I've always wanted a Omega SMP (black dial/bezel SMP or SMP GMT) cause I like the MOD style hour marking and the large sword hands, and also the great lume (Large hour markers and hands means more area for lume material :). And I've always liked the white dial version of Rolex Explorer II. So, the end result is a white dial version of Omega SMP GMT. I want to see how easy it is to live with a white dial watch. Reading the time off the watch is easy enough (though I still find the contrast of light color hands on black dial easier to read). The case and bracelet is comfortable. I do miss the micro adjustment on the clasp (Omega uses half link instead and pushing the pin in and out of the bracelet is not fun). Time keeping is within COSC for now. I do notice that the white dial is a little *bright* under direct sunlight. I will give it some time and see how I like the watch overall.

At the same, 2 more G-Shocks are off to the new owners: Casio G-Shock DW6700 Twin Sensor (Japan only grean accent version) and Casio G-Shock DW9800BD-2DR Terje Haakonsen Edition. Yet, more G-Shocks need to go (some just don't have enough wrist time and I would hate to see them sitting there doing nothing. And I can do the funds for more watches and toys :D )

Once at a while, I buy flashlights to *balance* out my toys. :p So, I've bought a Surefire A2 HA Aviator with white LED + V21 holster. The main beam is a fully regulated incandescent bulb with 50 lumens, and there are 3 5mm LED for long run time application (and when you don't need that much light). The interesting thing about the A2 is that the main incandescent beam is fully regulated so that the output stays consistant (maximium) all the time up to the point where the batteries can no longer sustain the power drawn (vs. other incandescent bulb will go less bright with time because of the way that the batteries discharge. e.g. Surefire advertise G2 to have 65 lumens and 60 min runtime. The discharge curve actually shows that the output is about 75% of its maximium at 5 min! Which means the light is only putting out 48.75 lumens after 5 min of use! The number looks bad, but the reason behind this is that the P60 lamp assembly used by G2 (or the like: P61, etc) are not designed for continous use for long period of time. They are designed for short brust of light so the discharge curve of longer period of time plays a less important factor here. Where the A2 was designed for pilot to do pre-flight check on planes, which would result in long continuous runtime. In this case, a fully regulated (constant) output makes much more sense (so that the light stays bright the whole time, in the expensive of shorter overall runtime because of the power drain of the regulation circuit.

    Fun toys :)

Well, I am looking forward to the upcoming 2 weeks of vacation soon ... can't wait! :D

  • 10/02/2006
Oct is here! Vacation time coming up! :D

My Seiko grail has arrived! Seiko Prospex Flightmaster automatic chronograph (SBDS001)! What a watch! 40 Jewels column wheel automatic chronograph movement (6S37) with power serve indicator, duel side AR coated sapphire crystal, display back, bi-directional compass and timing bezel, all Ti construction and WR 10BAR. The buttons are smooth with click for activiation (vs. the V7750 has a very firm click). Great attention to detail and just beautiful to look at. After owning the Landmaster auto and Marinemaster auto, Flightmaster auto definitely tops both of them.

As a result of the arrival of the Seiko grail, a few watches had to go: Sinn 756 UTC (simple choice, just don't need 2 automatic chronograph and this one is the most expensive one that I can live without, haha), G-Shock MTG910DA (like the black plated finish but I fell in between bracelet size, GW600 would have a better fit for me), Timex Ironman 100-lap (replaced by Ironman 8-lap shock resistant 200m, just a easier to live with 2nd watch), and G-Shock DW6900R (SOLD to a friend overseas :-)

I have in the process of a DIY regulation of the Citizen 200m lume dial automatic diver (NY0040-09WB). I so want to like that watch and the bracelet (nice tough with the adjustable clasp). But the timing was pretty bad with a -45 sec/day. So I am trying to regulate it into a more respectable timing. This is a fun DIY project and my first time doing a DIY regulation. Its not difficult at all, but need time and patiental for observing the result. You pretty much like spending less than 5 min opening up the case and adjusting the lever, then close it back up and set the watch into position to observe the timing over a couple of hours. I'll see how everything works out. :-)

  • 09/21/2006
Some watches arrived and some are incoming :
    • Sinn 756 UTC series II with bracelet arrived
This watch uses a new type of case using "Tegiment" technology. The case has a thin outer layer of special anti-corrosive stainless steel which is also used in surgical implants. This protective shell is hardened to 1,200 Vickers (4 times harder than the regular stainless steel used in other watches). It has a 25 Jewels Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement. One interesting thing is the lack of a running second hand. The dial is clean and less crowded because of the lack of the running second sub dial from the Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement. It only has a 12h UTC hand , meaning the UTC hand goes around the dial once every 12 hrs (the same as regular hour hand, other UTC/GMT watches has 24hr GMT hand that goes around the dial once every 24 hr to track AM and PM). The bad thing about this is that I can't track AM/PM with the UTC hand, the good thing about this is that I can hide the UTC hand behind the regular hour hand when I am not using it. And the hollow UTC hand makes it less confused with the regular hour hand.
    • Timex Ironman 8-lap with nylon strap arrived
Good beater/running watch/spare travel watch with alarm. :-)
    • Citizen 200m automatic NY0040-09WB diver incoming
Its a Citizen 200m Diver with a luminous dial and crown at 8 o'clock. The case of this Citizen Diver is a little bit slimmer than the Seiko SKX's Divers. I expect the lume to be not as good as Seiko's (which they are famous for). One good thing is that the automatic movement is hand windable. This would be my first Citizen automatic diver, so I can't really compare it with the Seiko's divers until it arrives. :-)

Besides watches, I also got a Garmin IQUE 3600 Palm-based PDA with built-in GPS receiver. I know this is yester-year's technology/product. But right now, seems like the price is right and it has the functionality that I am looking form, and I still need a Palm based PDA, then why not get one? :-) So maybe I would sell my Garmin GPS V cause I would no longer need it after the IQUE 3600 arrived. (If the IQUE 3600 works well, we'll see ;-)

In and out with watches ...

    In:

    • Timex Ironman 8-lap Shock Resistant 200m with nylon strap (I bought one of my old watch model back again (sold one some time ago). The shock resistant Ironman is simple, tough, comfortable and its a great spare watch to throw in a trip. The watch with nylon strap can stray flat and the nylon strap is soft so it won't take up much space at all)

    Out:
    • Casio G-Shock DWG-100J-9T Lungman Gold version
    • Casio G-Shock DW9350 Raysman Middle sea race
    • Seiko SBBN007 300M (Tuna) Marinemaster (maybe I can wear Seiko 1000M Tuna cause its not that much bigger than the 300M ...)
    • Seiko Titanium Automatic Scuba 200m (SBDA001) black dial with titanium bracelet (come and go in a blink of an eye, cause I still can't get over the weak lume (weaker when compare to something like the Seiko SKX779/781 Monsters). And seems like I have been spoiled with the Seiko 8L35 and ETA 2824 movement with the hacking and hand winding feature :p )
    • My old old Timex ironman (which served as my bathroom clock) has finally retired (the battery was dead and the LCD cracked <-- because of the vented gas from the exhausted Li-ion battery?)

    My plan now:
    • Seeking the following:
      • Seiko 1000m Tuna (Black)
      • Sinn 756 on bracelet
      • Omega Seamaster Professional 300M with black dial and bezel with speedie bracelet (I always like the MOD style dial and sword hands. I have to get the black dial cause I want it to work with a black zulu or NATO strap)
      • Omega Speedmaster X-33 (maybe, I wanted one since I was young but don't know if I would like to live with one)
      • Doxa SUB 750T Sharkhunter (maybe, I always like the retro style but the 750T may be too big for my wrist)
      • The Timex Ironman BodyLink GPS / Speed + Distance Trail Runner sounds like a fun toy ... :p
      • Who knows what else would catch my attention :p
    • I still don't know if I should get another Surefire M3, or E2E or A2 (the idea is tempting) and maybe wait and see what's other nice 2AA, 1 or 2 CR123A flashlight coming up
    • Sell off some more G-Shocks (that I don't wear much)
    • maybe put together another bathroom clock using my spare Casio G-Shock parts

I've installed a set of Toyota factory body colored mud flaps on the Toyota Solara. Now at least the car will be kept looking clean for a longer period of time :p BTW, the Solara is my daily drive for the mean time (and should be for several weeks) so that I can give the Honda Accord a rest. :)

Just finished a 3 day weekend retreat. Very tired, very sleepy. Zzzz .. Zzzz ...

My EZM3 is gone to its nice owner. I do like some aspect of the watch, but just can't connect with it. (minor detail that bugs me here or there, no major complain)

Then I finally found myself an old Casio G-Shock DW6700 Twin Sensor with module 1230 that has both metric and standard measurement unit. The watch used to be in good shape before the shippment, but the shipping method (by the seller) is pretty bad and actually did more damage than good (protection). More the bezel is slightly damaged. But most likely I will just keep it because of the module. I may swap the module with the other Japan version DW6700 so that I can have the nice JDM case but with the module that has both metric and standard measurement unit.

  • 08/22/2006
    2 more gone: Raysman (DW9300 blk/gold) and Codename Cipher(DW8800).

I have discovered that the Stowa ProDiver has monster-crashing (literally for seiko monster) lume! So now, I have get myself one of those to check it out. :D

  • 08/21/2006
Bye bye Raysman (DW9300 blk/grey) and Solar Viper (G5600GH).
  • 08/15/2006
2 more G-Shocks gone: AW571 Gaussman MIB II and DW5600C Yellow Speed.

In the mean time, I have changed out a worn out DW5600C black bezel with a new one to freshen up the looks. It was worn out but now it looks great. Just can't believe its almost 20 yr old already.

I really like the Sinn EZM-3, but ... (nothing went without a BUT -_- ) .. but I am right in between bracelet sizes! remove one link and its too tight, add one link and its a little too lose. This is driving me nuts! The only bracelet so far that I have complain at all is my Seiko Landmaster Kinetic. Its just right, on top of that there's an adjustable dive clasp that I can adjust the length on the fly. How nice is that! Sadly, this also means the Sinn EZM-3 has got to go .. -_-

Finally bought myself another new flashlight after a long while. I got the Fenix P1. It has a 3W LED, HA finish, coated lens, a good regulated output and a twisty head switch. I like it cause its small and simple. I do wished the that the thread is a little smoother (mine is tight), the kurl (checker mark for grip) on the twisty switch is a little more agressive so that I can operate the light with one hand more easily, and mine has slight helio ring on the very edge of the beam. doesn't bug me too much, but still those are things that can be improved. Now I am interested in the L2T with 3W LED ... hehe

  • 08/09/2006
    Sold one more G-Shock: MRG-1

Then bought another watch back :D ... Sinn Einsatzzeitmesser 3 (EZM 3) automatic diver. It is argon-filled cavity and has a dehumidifier capsule prevents fogging by eliminating moisture intrusion, special micro-lubricating techniques allows for operation down to -45 degrees Centigrade (-95 degrees F), 50ATM water resistant, double-side AR coated sapphire crystal and the case has an iron core to protect against extreme magnetic fields. It looks good on the spec, we will see how well it hold up in times. The only down side to the Ar filled case and dehumidifier capsule is that Sinn doesn't have a service center that can refill the Ar gas and replace the dehumidifier capsule. So any service will require sending the watch back to Germany. I am keeping my finger crossed [not having to send the watch back any time soon, and Sinn will have a service center in the State to handle Ar gas refilling and capsule replacement before my watch needs servicing]. :-)

Well, my 4th Seiko Marinemaster 300m auto (SBDX001) is gone. For some reason, I have a love/leave (no hate, I still like it a lot) relationship with the Marinemaster 300m auto. I really like everything about it (almost ;) ) but I never could keep one for too long. Maybe its the hardex crystal, maybe its the little missing detail on each sample that I've had (though it packs a lot of feature, but some how a tinny bit of detail in putting the watch together is missing. I am just being picky here though), ... I don't know. For some reason, my relationship with one (MM) just doesn't last long ... Oh well, I will have to move on for now. I think I will avoid getting another one cause maybe this is just not the watch for me.

Since money is burning hole in my pocket :p , I am looking in the Sinn (EZM-3? EZM-4? 142? 157? 756S? 856S? 103 Ti Ar UTC?)? Maybe Doxa 600T (750T is too big for my wrist to handle)? How about a Omega SMP black dial? Seiko Orange Samurai (again?)? I don't know .. :p Oh well, I am not in a hurry, so I will let the money sit until something catch my attention.

  • 08/03/2006
I sold my beaten up G-Shock DW9300GA Guardian Angel and GW400HLJ Haiwaiian Life Guard. The vibration alarm on the GW400 is just a little too weak. I can only feel it if I wear my watch tightly. And the sudden vibrate from the watch out of no here is not a good alarm. :p

I do need more cleaning up on my G-Shock "stash". :) I have been wearing my G-Shock DW5300 for 4 days this week (since Monday). This is definitely a record. I haven't been wearing a watch for that long for a while. haha :p And I guess I have to start thinking about which watch to wear this weekend.

  • 08/02/2006
Well, here they came. More G-Shocks:
    • DW9300J Raysman (regular black/grey version)
    • DW9300J Raysman (Black/Gold version)
    • DW9300GA Raysman Guardian Angel (a little beaten up)
    • DW9800BD-2DR Terje Haakonsen Edition
    • DW9100Z Riseman MIB
    • DWG-100J-9T Lungman (gold version, also bought a spare strap somewhere else)
    • MRG-1 (gold version, slight used)
Well, some are for sale and some are for keep. But seriously [this time], I would have to clean up my collection before I should buy again ...

One my DW9350 Mid Sea Race is sold. Looks like I still have plenty of Master of G :)

  • 07/28/2006
Often time things look good on paper, but not so much with the real deal. Broadarrow PRS-11 PVD MOD diver is one of those case for me. I really like the look of MOD dial + black framed hands, giving out a stealthy and floating hand looks. The ETA 2824 is a ok automatic movement as it hacks and hand windable. The watch build quality is definitely not bad (for the price that i paid).

And than comes the bad things: the lume of the markers on the dial and the hands doesn't match. The hands glows much better than the markers. I knew this before hand. But it just bugs me as time goes on. And I got spoiled by the lume on Seiko's diver (which is good, very good). And then the crown. Though it screws down smoothly, its anodized in a shiny black, instead of the stealthy PVD black (which makes the crown stands out too much). And the last would be I can't seems to find a good strap for it. The watch just never looks right except for nylon strap, but sometimes, I do want to wear a different strap (and no bracelet for it cause its in PVD finish. Finding a PVD finished bracelet will be too much $$$$).

Anyway, the end result is it has to go, which helps to pay for the rest of my Seiko and Casio collection anyway. :)

I tested my Seiko Marinemaster 300m auto yesterday and it ran +6 sec / day with mostly wear + crown up position. I will be testing it with wear + crown down position and see how it difference. I don't really mind +6 sec / day at all, it beats all my 7S26 and ETA 2824 automatic movements.

And well, since I can't come to selling the Seiko SKX791 Black Monster cause I think its such a fantastic watch for the money, but I have too many watches to wear and I never seems to have time to wear the BM. I ended up giving the watch to my Dad and hope that he will enjoy the watch. Now, this is great cause I don't have to sell the BM but it will still have wrist time! :D

And speaking of too many watches, I have 7 Casio G-Shocks thats incoming ... Seems like my "sales figure" can never match my "buy figure" .. lol :D

  • 07/20/2006
My DW8300 is gone. More to go, and more is coming :-)

Got myself a GW400HLJ Haiwaiian Life Guard yesterday. I've always interested in the GW400 cause Casio packed so many features into the watch (atomic solar, current time, multiple alarms, world time, tide graph, moon phase, themometer, stopwatch, countdown timer, vibration alarm and auto EL). I've got a pretty used example. But that's exactly what I am looking for (a beater to use in the gym with vibration alarm). On top of that, I figure out even if I order new bezel and band for it, I still would/should come out cheaper than a *normal* used one. (we'll see about that :p )

BTW, I am wearing my Seiko Tuna 300m today. :)

  • 07/18/2006
Gotta let go of some lights, cause I want to get something else. :p So my Madmax 3W on mmag is gone.
  • 07/14/2006 PM
Gotta love animated GIF .. LOL :D

I finally (actually more than a couple of days already) got myself a Seiko Landmaster Kinetic (SBDW005). I have been eyeing on one ever since I bought (and sold) my Citizen Eco Drive Mission Antarctica. Its a good comparison between the 2 cause both of them are 1-piece titanium case with sapphire crystal, have GMT hand and date window, WR 20BAR, non-traditional battery powered (Seiko by Kinetic and Citizen by Eco Drive).

      IMO, the Citizen MA is/has:
      • Uni-directional timing bezel (though the click was a soft and kind of too easy to turn),
      • huge indiced with a lot of lumes,
      • scratch resistant Duratect titanium (from my experience!),
      • solid end link on bracelet (though I didn't have the original Ti bracelet, but I still had a Citizen Duratect titanium bracelet).

IMO, the Seiko Landmaster Kinetic is/has:
      • Great attention to detail (the Ti bezel is a work of art!),
      • power reserve button to tell how much batter/power reserve there is,
      • flat sapphire crystal (better for *on land* time viewing),
      • though the end link of the Ti bracelet is folded, it doesn't feel filmy at all,
      • adjustable Ti claspe,
      • what's with the weird 19mm lug size(?!),
      • the lume is decent but wished for more (What can I say? I got spoiled by Seiko Divers. :p ),
      • single side drilled lugs (Great for changing strap, I wonder why don't all watches are made with drilled lugs? :p ),
      • though the Ti compass Bezel is beautiful to look at, a timing bezel is more useful.

The funny thing is that I actually like the Landmaster Kinetic better than the Landmaster automatic. The LM auto is a larger and taller watch. Though I don't really have problem with the size of LM auto, I do prefer the smaller size of the LM kinetic (better fit).

Now I think I have the best of both [Seiko] world with the LM Kinetic (for the Kinetic technology) and MM auto (for the robust 8L35 automatic movement). :)

I sold my 1AA mini-mmini-mag :p cause I am not using it at all. And now that the LED technology is getting better and better, there are plenty of 1AA or 2AA 1W or 3W LED flashlight with reasonable price out there.

  • 07/11/2006
Can you believe it? Sold my latest Seiko Marinemaster 300m auto and got another one. To make the story short, I end up with a Seiko MM in better condition and slightly less money in my pocket. :p

Sold one of my G-Shock DW6700, more G-Shock needs to be sold :p

  • 07/06/2006
Ok, sold 1 of my G-Shock DW9100 Riseman (black/yellow). I do need a few more G-Shocks/watches to go and make room for the new ones .. :-)
  • 06/29/2006
I need to slow down ... :p I don't know what happened but there are 2 more Seikos are in the house.

    • Seiko Brightz SAGN007 with 4S27 28 Jewels automatic movement (hand windable and hackable). It has sapphire crystal with AR coating and display back (also sapphire), a unique day [of the week] hand, a date [of the month] and a 24 hr dial. It will be my *dress* watch if I need something formal.
    • Seiko MarineMaster (SBDX001) Automatic 300m. This is my 3rd MM. I got it at a good price, though the bracelet is all brushed (vs. it has a brushed and polished finish from the factory). I do intend to bring it back to factory finish later on. But now, I am wearing it with the original diver strap, which I haven't tried with the previous 2 MM's.

I am wearing my Seiko 300m Tuna Can with a 22mm 2-ring zulu with black hardware. This is the best strap for it so far. I have tried Seiko straight and curved strap and both didn't really worked for me. I still haven't tried the Italian Chrono bracelet yet. I will see if I would try that on later.
  • 06/22/2006
One more Casio G-Shock sold: DW5600C Yellow Speed. And I am planning on selling off some more G-Shocks soon ... to more room for more to come. :-)

I figure out the Broadarrow PRS-11 has a sapphire crystal with no AR coating. Not too big of a deal, but it would have been nice. With a 8 hour of wear and a crown up position over night, the watch is running about 9-10 sec per day. Its not super accurate but its good enough for the price. I wished Seiko diver's are that accurate right out of the box without regulating it. And boy, I need to take the Black Monster out for some wrist time soon. :p

And I think I need a "dress" watch for the "shirt and tie" occation.

Also, I am looking for some comfortable leather straps for the Tuna Can and PRS-11.

Watches, watches, watches ... it has been all watches lately. I didn't have much other toys going on, flashlights and other stuff.

I haven't been riding my road bike much at all recently. I need to neither spend some time on the bike or something.

  • 06/12/2006
2 more G-Shocks sold: DW9800 (in slightly used condition) and DW5600C (one of my many :)

Watches going only means some are coming .. ;)

I picked up 2 2-piece zulu (1 grey 22mm, 1 black 20mm) for my Seiko 300m Tuna and Broadarrow PRS-11 respectively, seeing how I would like them on 2-piece zulu. And I think thinking about picking up a 22mm thick leather strap for the Seiko 300m Tuna, but don't know what to get?!

I am wearing my Broadarrow PRS-11 today at the office. Its on a comfy 20mm zulu 1-piece 2-ring. I kind of like the hacking and hand windable movement, and the smooth gliding hands (running @ 28kbpm instead of the 21kbpm for the Seiko 7S26 automatic movement that I am more used to). If I really like the watch, I *might* take it in for a regulation, a black date wheel and relume the dial and hands to Super Luminova would be nice too. ;)

My Accord is needed yet another oil change (would it ever stop? ;) After putting on the 17" wheels from 2006 Accord V6, the milage seems to be down by just a little, about < 1 mpg. I think I am already running a high-er psi on the tires. So the difference must be due to the increase in contact patch. If that's the case, I think I would gladly pay a small price for putting more rubber on the group. And of course, time to sell the old 16" wheels from 2006 Accord EX as well. :)

The Casio G-Shock MRG-1 was sold. Nice old school solid titanium case with screwdown caseback. but its just not *special* enough, and I don't see it will have much wrist time so it had to go. (I just have too many watches, too little time :p )

On the other hand, I've bought another watch that I have long been interested but haven't got the chance to pick one up: Time Factors Broadarrow PRS-11 300m automatic in PVD with black dial. It has a ETA 2824-2 25 jewels movement with PVD case and sapphire crystal with AR coating on the inside. Its nice and stealth, with the MOD diver dial. The black hands makes a good floating effects. The "T" marking on the dial doesn't not mean it contains tritium. It's there only for the "military look". The luminous material on the dial and hands are Luminova (a non-radioactive material). The watch is well built and I like the stealth military look of it. I do wished that the lume of the dial and hands has the same intensity of glow (the hands glow much stronger than the markers on the dial), a white on black day wheel (to complete the stealth look) and the crown has non-reflective finish just like the rest of the case (the screw has shiny black finish). To be honest, I don't think it worths the retail price. But if you can pick up a good condition used one, I don't see why not. :p Since I've always have Seiko diver, this PRS-11 is a nice change with the slim case and hacking and hand windable movement at a reasonable price.

    Ok, here's the math: (+2) - 1 = +1

I sold my black G-Shock DW6100 with module 1414. Though this is the only themometer G-Shock that I have with F degree, but then I have more than a couple of G-Shocks with C degree. So, all I need to do is a little math in my head to get the temperature in F degree. :)

I ordered from Japan one of the first non G-Shock watch in a looooooooooong period of time. I finally gave in to the craving of Tuna and got myself a tuna can (Seiko SBBN007 300M Marinemaster) with Italian Chrono bracelet. This is a no thrill tool diver that does what it does very well -- which is to tell time (Ok, maybe even the depth of 300M under water, lol :) .

And how can a watch order complete without a G-Shock. I have also ordered a Casio G-Shock AWG-500BJ-4AJF in orange. Its a great orange retro looking analog/digital Atomic Solar AWG500 with 3 metal rings for strap retainer.

And a few more G-Shock sales will be in progress, to fund my new purchase as well as to thin out the collection a little bit ... to bring balance and peace .. ;-)

Ok, 3 more G-Shocks gone: AW560, G100 12 Beasts and [one of my] DW5600C[s]. So, maybe its time to think about getting some more G-Shocks ... :D (and at the same time selling off a few more :p )
  • 05/23/2006
My red Casio G-Shock DW003 is off to the new owner. I guess I am taking small steps in thinning out my G-Shock collection. As you know, "new ones can't come in until the old ones are gone" ... hehe

This is already May, '06. And already 5 months into 2006?! time really flies! (a little too fast if you ask me :p )

When they arrives, they usually comes in huge package ... sorta :p Here's a list of G-Shock that have arrived lately:

    • DW9100 riseman (blue/yellow)
    • G5700L (LX series) with black leather strap
    • GW600 black force with black ion plated bracelet
    • DW9800 (black with orange buttons on the right and wademan logo on EL)
    • MRG-1 with golden LCD
    • DW8400 Mudman
    • DW6600
    • DW003 (red)
    • DW6900R
    • AW571 Gaussman MIB II
    • DW9100 riseman (black)
    • DW6700 (green)
    • DW9300GA Guardian Angel (my *holy grail* G-Shock!)
    • DW6695 (with the letter F in the EL, that's my middle initial!)

I am not going to keep all of them, but at least I will keep most of them. The ones that I most liked are the G5700L, DW9100 black, DW9300GA and DW9800 black). And later on, I will probably sell off the DW9100 (blue/yellow), DW6600, DW003 and DW6700 when I have the time.

Since I already have the DW9300GA Raysman Guardian Angel, maybe I can *slow down* on the purchase and re-organize my collection a little bit. And maybe I can even find the time to re-do these place to show more photo, spec, after thoughts of the *toys* that I have ... :)

And I finally got myself a set of 17" rims off Honda Accord Gen 7 V6 6sp. They are already fitted to my 6th Gen Accord V6 Sedan and feels right at home. :) I can use the extra meat on the ground. :p Now I will have to sell my Gen 7 Accord V6 16" rims/wheels

I upgrade my Escort Passport 8500 radar detector to the X50 verison. From what I've read, the X50 has better range and can detect POP radar. Not that I am planning on speeding, but its always good to have *protection*. ;-) (I am actually going easy on the gas pedal lately, no kidding :p )

I have purchases another G-Shock (that's no "news" anymore :p ) Its a MTG910DA-1V. It has the basic Atomic Solar feature along with the less-than-useful time stamp/memo feature. This is the first black ion plated G-Shock that I wear. The plating is hold up well so far. Only time will tell if the plating can take a beating. So far the Atomic function is working well, just like the new-er atomic G-Shocks. (unlike my first/old GW300 and MTG900 which failed/is difficult to receive signal.

In the upcoming movie Mission Impossible III, Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) will be wearing a MTG910D? model. Since there's another MTG910DJ-2V (with grey parts, slightly blue LCD and blue letter on the EL button in the front) on Casio's web site and there isn't a clear production photo from the movie to show what's Ethan is wearing, nobody have a clear idea which model is featured in the movie.

I also have 1 more DW9800 Wademan. This one is a very dark OD green with kalvar strap, but not the ARTI version. It has "WR20BAR" on the dial and only have C in temperature measurement. So its a Japan market version for sure. But I just couldn't figure out the model number at his moment.

And more G-Shock is coming my way :)

Due to the lack of wrist time, I had to let the Citizen Eco Drive Navihawk Duratect Ti go. Its a nice watch and I really like it, but its just a waste if its just sitting on the shelf getting so little wrist time. Now I am out of Citizen Duratect, maybe I will get another one some day.

And some more G-Shocks are gone.

    • DW8300 (the slight used sample, I still have the mint one)
    • DW8500 Codename (I just like the DW8800 better)
    • DW9800 (the black one, but I am keeping the DW9800AR ARTI)
The good news is that there are more G-Shock coming this way soon (for some reason this is always the case :)

And the Accord EX V6 is due for an oil change again and its getting an oil change like every 7 weeks. And probably new tires not too long later on.

  • 03/28/2006
Well, I have acquired quite a few G-Shocks:
    • G100 12 beast
    • DW8300 Stargate SG-1
    • DW9350 Raysman Middle sea race (in very good condition)
    • DW9350 Raysman Middle sea race (good condition but some decoloration)
    • DW6700 grean version
    • DW6600 GTR version
    • DW9800 Wademan
    • DW9800AR Wademan ARTI (Japan version with camouflage style kalvar strap)
    • DW8800 Codename Cipher (the kavlar strap held up very well!)
    • DW8500 Codename
    • AW560 lume dial
Sold is the G7000K2 ICRCE edition. And more to come! (and some to sell off :p )
  • 03/14/2006
DW004 G-Lide, GT000 G-Cool, Gulfman (DW9701K) 2003 I.C.E.R.C edition are now gone. I really liked the Gulfman, great G-Shock but I hated the bucket of the strap. The Pro Trek Triple Sensor PRG40 is also gone.

More G-Shock going and gone ... only to make room for what's coming ... :)

If I can pull my time together, then I really SHOULD re-do the pages with photo ...

  • 03/09/2006
Some G-Shocks come and go ...
    Gone:
    • DW002

    Going:

I will make up my losses on G-Shocks soon ... with more to come :)
  • 02/21/2006
    More Casio:)

    • Casio G-Shock G7000K2 I.C.E.R.C Dolphin & Whale Eco-Research Network (2003 Edition, with module 2804 and stainles steel bracelet)

    The more the merrier. :D
  • 02/09/2006
Life goes on ... with G-Shock coming in. This time is a DW9100 Twin Sensor Riseman (with yellow letters). Its the updated version of my old (and ex) DW6700 Twin Sensor SkyForce. I still want to get a DW6700 cause it was the first G-Shock model I had.
  • 02/03/2006
My crsis (see 01/23/06) has ended in the worst possible way and there's nothing that I can do about it. Well, in life, you win some and you lose some. So I can only accept the reality and move on with my life. It wasn't a total disaster. I was able to meet most of my goals despite of the outcome. Hence I still have some peace of mind and didn't declare it a "total lost". (If you look closely enough on my web site, you will know what I am talking about :p )

Some more watches / flashlights come and go:

    • A black G-Shock AW560 is coming, its the vintage analog / digit combo. I really wanted the Luminous dial version but ended up with a black dial instead because of the price.
    • G-Shock DW8300 "Stargate SG-1" has arrived. It's in great condition. I have a somewhat of a decent deal on it (it's not the deal of the year but I didn't get rip off neither).
    • The G7500 vibratinon alarm G-Shock is a come-n-go cause it looks too toy-ish (too much like a toy) on my wrist. :p
    • Finally have a Fenix L1P in my hand. Its a good small light, good brightness (in the expense of run time and only semi-regulated).
  • 01/24/2006
    Busy, busy, busy ... and got 5 G-Shocks coming in ... :p

    • DW5600 with module 691 (finally have my 2nd module 691 :)
    • DW5300 with module 901 (as seen in Mission Impossible)
    • GW1500 (Analog/digital with Atomic Solar)
    • DW6000 (1/1000 sec chronograph :)
    • G7500 (vibrate alarm, 5 yr battery using CR2025 battery)

And sold my TerraLux MiniStar2 w/ white side emission 1W LS with reflector in a 2AA MagLite body cause I don't need it anymore with the L2P (providing 3-4 hr of fully regulated output)
  • 01/23/2006
Busy dealing with a crisis. But in the mean while:

    • GW-5600RJ-4JF with red bezel and grey strap is come and gone.
    • GW-5600BJ-1JF with reverse LCD is sold, so I am G atomic-less for now
    • I revived a G-Cool GT-000 with white case and leather strap with clasp.
    • The DW-004 is out of commission right now missing an alarm spring (part used for the GT-000 revival).
    • Have a DW6600B incoming with WR20BAR and FireFox marking. Its vintage so I've got to have it. :)
    • L1P's deal fell through, so no L1P for me :(
  • 01/09/2006
A Fenix L1P (1AA) is on the way. Only Fenix L0P (1AAA) left to get. :)
  • 01/06/2006
Sold off the first set of watches in 2006! :p I sold the Casio G-Shock DW6100 with module 974 (already have 2 DW6100 with module 984 & 1414, don't need a 3rd one), DW8700 (condition not up to my standard) and my older Timex 8-lap Shock Resistant 200m (being replaced with the Timex Ironman 100-lap, or I might get a current Ironman shock resistance 30-lap later on).

Not too worry, I am pretty sure I will get more G-Shocks later ... :D

Getting a new flashlight in long while. A Fenix L2P with 2AA, reflector, mineral glass lens with AR coating on the inside, HA, clicky tail switch and able to stand on end. I am hoping to get the Fenix L0P (1AAA) and Fenix L1P (1AA) as well later on.

Happy New Year! Ready or not, here comes 2006! :-)

Just finished a Vancouver holiday, a little bit of skiing/snowboarding, some site seeing, and a lot of eating. Good food and wonderful trip. Also one good thing is that I now know I can't ski ... haha :D hence I had to do snowboarding (only if I HAD to :p )

So more G-Shock in the new year? You bet! A G-Shock DW8150 has arrived. It has huge case and a slot machine when the EL is activated. Man, I kept pressing the EL button just to play the slot machine. :D And then I have a G-Shock DW004 G-Lide on strap coming my way. That will be my first G-Lide model

    Must hunt down more G's ... :D
