My Bikes

Oh well, they are all here ... for now (who know what I am going to get next, haha). You can sort of see the the trend for mountain biking here. From hardtail, to simple full suspension, and then 4 bar linkage middle travel and now it's short travel cross country design. I have been "search" for the bike design that "works" for me. For now, I am settling for the short travel cross country bike. It's by no means the "perfect" design, but it works the best for me.

In the past, I have attended 3 mountain bike races. Here they are:

Here is my first centry ride:

Below are all the bikes that I have ever owned.

<< 1996 Raleigh M-400

This is the first REAL mountain bike that I owned. It was a lot of bike for the money. Also a nice bike for people who wants to get into the sport of mountain biking without breaking their bank. I did a lot of research and found out that this is the most bike you can get for about $500.

My first full suspension bike. A great upgrade from a hardtail. Good rear shock (RockShox SuperDelux), very adjustable. But somehow I can only get less than 2 inches of travel out of the RockShox Judy SL in the front?! Maybe it's the spring, maybe it was the compression damping, I don't know ... ?

<< 1998 Specialized FSR Extreme

A good trail bike with 4 inches of travel in front and rear. Everything is great on this bike except for the pivots of the rear suspension linkage. Too much noise and too much work to keep it working nice. Nice suspension as long as you keep it clean and smooth.

This is not exactly what you would call a super light cross country racer, but it suits my riding style. Nice handling, responsive, has rear shock lock out for road or smooth trail. I have taken her to almost every kind of terrain: long road hill climb, XC race, open fire road, ski lift DH ... She hold up and perform well in most situation.

<< 2001 Mongoose Bosberg

This is a little (just a little?!) different from the bikes that I used to own. A Ti road bike vs. all MTB in the past. I haven't put much miles on her yet since she is still new. But I would say I am happy with the ride so far. She accelerates really well. And coming from 26lb+ MTBs, I am pretty happy about this 18.5lb bike ...

I have never own anything with this kind of travel. 7" in the front and 5.9" in the back. This is a '99 frame. I think the frame has seen better days under the pilot of the previous owner. She is not what I would call in "As New" condition. But when you look after how beefy the frame is, how thick is the welding and how strong everything is, then you won't have doubt about the frame at all.
