Specialized
99' FSR XC S-WORK frame set

1999 Specialized FSR XC S-WORK

I bought the frame set, again and again, at SuperGo. I had a little discount on this one. So, I bought it cheaper than the list price. I just grip it without second thoughts. Oh well, maybe I did, let me say without a third thoughts or something. haha~ After all, it was still more than $1000 for the frame set alone. After I purchases the frame set, I transfer almost all of the parts from my FSR Extreme.

Amount all the bikes that I ever had, This is the one that suits my riding style the best. The FOX Air Vanilla RC gives me the choice of 3" fully active rear suspension or a hardtail-like ride when "locked out". The frame set is reasonably light as well as stiff. I love the ride for being not harsh like a hardtail nor like a long travel bike with too much "up and down". Plus I have to option of locking the rear shock out for a hardtail-like ride. Everything that I can ask for from a XC bike. Even though the SX-R fork only claims 70mm of travel. But the TPC damping did an excellent job of making me feel I have more than that.

I can't hardly think of any down side for this bike, functional-wise. But there are always a potential danger of the air shock in the back for blowing out. I don't seems to be able to get this off my mind. And the other thing is that I've read a couple of incident of people breaking the chain stay. Specialized did beef up the chain stay from 2000 onward. But I am not too worry about this one. Since I am not a crazy down hiller who take a XC bike for serious down hilling or 6' drop off. But again, this is something that I kept in my mind.

All in all, I am very satisfy with the ride quality and functionality of the bike. Even though I still can't give the title of a "perfect bike" to this one. But it certainly earns to be "the almost perfect bike that I will keep for at less a while", haha~
