Old Pilot Log Version 4.0

Year 2003 and before

Here are the current updates

  • 11/05/2003
Well not surprisingly, it happens again. My 3rd project's deadline got pushed back, again. Not that I am mad about it this time, cause I am well prepared for it. I am ahead of my schedule and can care less for the delay of deadline, I am working on finishing it early anyway (,unless I got stuck forever at the last part of the project. :p ) At the mean time, I just finished a mid term and I can use some more rest now. :D
And the wait goes on ...
  • 10/29/2003
History keep repeating itself. Don't believe me? I am having yet another week with mid term exam and compiler project due in the same week. How can you makes it even better? This time around, the exam and project due is on the SAME day! How excitting!
"Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger." ... so bring it on!
A month has passed, numerous more to go ...
I updated my S2K page to reflect some up-to-date info.
  • 10/23/2003
Well, the exam was finally over. I have one less thing to worry about and one more thing that I can't change anymore. Don't worry, I am sure the upcoming exam will bother me as much as the last one.
The project will be dued this Friday. I am rolling along with it. It's not too much headache but it's not pleasant in anyway. Another *good* news would be the specification of the next project is already out and we only have about 2 weeks to do it. (instead of 3-4 weeks like the others, the reason behind it is cause the prof. is way behind on the text material and previous project due dates. Good one! ) Oh well, I can't complain too much, it's not like the prof. was paid by the school to make us happy ... in anyway. :rolleye:
Things are going to be back at square one. On well, maybe we have a little progress afterall, so back at "square two" ... -_-
  • 10/15/2003
Life really couldn't get much better than this ... :rolleye:
The school server that I work on my project refuses access for some reason for a couple of days and the prof. is going to decide what to do with it soon. The project was suppose to due on this coming Friday and right now is Wednesday evening ...
Mid term exam got pushed back again until next Monday cause the prof. needs to catch up on the lecture. Man, I just want to get it over with.
      ... to be continued
I updated the Cars page and my profile a little to reflect the latest info.
  • 10/13/2003
      What a life!
Huge project due and big mid terms coming up this week ...
And these are already the good news ... -_-
  • 10/03/2003
It has been a really really long week for me. -_-
And the wait is not over ...
  • 09/29/2003
Boy, my shoulder hurts, my legs hurts, not getting enough sleep, I feel tired ...
I am a little cranky today, don't mess with me! :(
(Well, maybe that's cause over the weekend, I rode ~60 miles on my bike, ran ~6 miles, not getting enough sleep for 2 nights, wasn't eating right ... )
  • 09/10/2003
I haven't done much update for the whole summer already. You can't blame me, I have been having way too much fun. :D Here is a couple good ones:
      • After using the Garmin GPS for a while, I think I like it in general. One thing quite concern me which is the reception, the lack of in this case. I guess because of the small size of the GPS unit, the antenna is tiny as well (which locates on the top of the upper portion of the GPS unit). For best reception, the GPS unit must be facing towards a clear sky. The reception goes down by A LOT when you put the unit horizontal (standing up). And you will have no reception when using the unit under trees. This is a bit annoying when you are hiking along a trail with tall trees on both sides. -_- Other than that, it pretty much work as advertise.
      • My S2K has passed a 12000 miles trouble-free mark on the odometer. I haven't done anything much to her since the last update. And she doesn't complain much at all. :D Except she still sounds very angry when the tach passed 6000 rpm. And I like it. ;)
MY2004 S2K should be out in about 2 months. Minor undate on the front and rear bumpers and lights, and also exhaust and interior trim, 17" rims, supposingly 2.2L DOHC VTEC engine with a lowered redline, more torque and no change in horsepower. Well, I guess I will put my verdict on hold until the real MY2004 comes out. But I am glad that the newer 2.2L engine won't able to match the 8900 rpm redline and horsepower per liter on a NA engine as our F20C. :D Up until today, the F20C still has the highest rev among all production car engines (8900 rpm redline, except for sports bike I guess ;) and also the most horsepower per liter on a NA engine(120hp/liter on USDM engines, 5hp/liter more on JDM's). :)
      • Fall 2003 semester @ fullerton started already. What can I say, it's pretty much like this:
        for (i=0; i<[end of semester]; i++) {
        homework assignment;
        project;
        exam; }
  • 05/19/2003
    • Updated the links page a little bit, removed/editted broken links, relocated some links, added some new links ... still looks like a mess though :D
    • Updated my profile.
  • 04/29/2003
Am I being busy still news? Well, here ya go ... I have been ... busy.
Here is a list of what's current (list really makes it easy for me :) :
    • Work, study, work, study, work, study, work, study, work, study ...
    • The HPI Pro 3 is gone. It has been fun while it lasted but I just couldn't find the time (and a huge very smooth parking lot) to play and also the time to maintain the mechanic of the car. Well, I guess I have to do something that's fun but less time consuming. :-) I still have a HPI electric RS4 MT (with a spare rolling chassis), all electrics except for radio transmitter and receiver. It's almost ready to run. But most likely I would be letting it go since I probably won't have time to mess with it anyway. On the other hand, may be I can save it for those day which I want a backyard basher for fun. You knows? :D
    • I went to the Mazda rev-it-up driving event. For $39, I got a couple of simple driving instruction sessions, 4 runs on an autoX course (too bad the timed runs and the practice runs are on 2 different course with different setups), some test drive of new or upcoming vehicles. It was pretty fun, not a bad price to pay for more than half a day of driving entertainment. :-) It's not much compare to the Fast Lane racing school where you will have some more track time and instructor riding shotgun with you. But the Mazda event is a LOT cheaper. :D The best part is that you are NOT trashing your own car! You can hit all the cones you want on the course and destroy as much tires as you want and you can walk away after that! :-) (They were FWD w/ automatic transmission, but well, you can't ask for too much, right? ;-)
    • My  Corolla GT-S just passed smog check, barely. Everything looks fine except for the low speed HC (Hydro-carbon emission). The suspected cause may be one of the spark plug is not firing correctly. I didn't hear much ping from the engine so it doesn't sound like mis-fire. Anyway, I will have to get somebody to look at it. (I don't want to be part of the pollution problem :D ) I replaced the K&N filter with regular paper filter just to make sure that one of the valves won't get clot again because of excess filter oil.
    • I got the tool to replace the trunk spring of the S2000 already, but I just didn't have time to get to it yet. After replacing the trunk spring with the new one that comes with the rear spoiler, the trunk will be able to pop up higher (normal) when It's being released (due to the added weight of the rear spoiler).
  • 03/04/2003
Well, here are the latest: ;-)
    • I finally got my AE92 back and nothing major was done. Just the regular oil change and tuning stuff. One thing though, there is a by-pass valve near the intake was clotted by grease and dirt. The suspected reason for it was a overly oiled K&N filter, which is strange cause I never washed and oiled the K&N filter by myself. The oil on the K&N filter was fresh from factory when I first installed it. Well, I probably should/could replacement the K&N with a regular air filter to prevent the clotting from happening again. But for now, I will continue to run the air filter since the K&N filter has already been washed and re-oil. This time around I let it dry a little before I put the filter back in. But after this incident, I would never allow my S2000 to see a K&N (or other filters that needs oiling) ... at least not until I know for sure that there is a way to prevent the F20C on the S2000 from sucking in un-wanted oil from the air filter.
    • My HPI RS4 Rally is gone ... before it was being assembled. Here is why. I've found a great local deal on a used HPI RS4 Pro 3 package. The local deal cost me about 1/2 of what I paid for the RS4 Rally + FM radio + charger + batteries, which works out great for me since I want to get back into RC hobby without breaking my wallet.
    • The RS4 Pro 3 deal includes everything ready to run. I have to say that the radio, ESC and chargers are entry level equipment and they will be replaced once I am more serious about RC hobby. But for now, they works great and I don't have much complain about them. The RS4 Pro 3 has quite a few hop ups and that will save me some money for future upgrades. (I still have to worry about replacement if I break them though :p  )
    • The first thing after I got the car was to swap out the nice carbon fiber chassis cause I KNOW for sure that I will scratch the heck out of it for the first few drives. And I am glad I did(, judging by the way I drove for the first couple of times :D). And the next thing I did is to raise the ride height by just a little and dial in some -ve camber (since the parking lot I ran/run the car is not what I would call perfectly flat and smooth. So far the car hold up great and handle really well. I am not thinking of any mod for the Pro 3 any time soon cause everything is working so well now and I am not good enough to noticed any immediate improvement that needed to be addressed. Maybe upgrade to Ni-MH batteries and charger is a wise choice (currently running a 6 cell 2400mah, a 6 cell 2000mah matched and a peak charger).

  • 02/16/2003
Well, my Corolla is in the shop for service for these couple of weeks. So, my S2000 becomes my daily drive. So far so good. And I definitely put the money into good use with the upgrade stereo system. Now, I am thinking when I should take the DC Sports header out since it's not doing much performance gain (10lb lighter than stock though) and I might want to just leave the drive train of the S2000 to stock (I believe that the stock power is enough to get me into a LOT of trouble already :D ) The S2000 finally passed 8100 miles after ... 14 months of use. heh. Weekend cars doesn't see too much mileage, don't they? ;-) My worry is that since I have been driving the S2000 everyday now and I pretty much love it. :D When the Corolla is ready again, will I be able to keep the S2000 as a weekend car again and not drive it everyday? haha~
I finally broke down and bought another RC car ... A HPI RS4 Rally with a Peugeot 206 WRC body. I wanted the Subaru WRX 2001 or the Mits. Evo VI. But after a second thoughts, I think everybody else out there will go for either one of those. And for the rest of the body kit, they are just too color rich for me. So I think the Peugeot 206 WRC is a well balanced choice for me (looks good, not everybody owns it and simple color). Along with the FM radio, extra set of road tires, batteries and charger set me out for close to US$370 already. Each part is not too bad but they add up rather quickly! I am going to re-use the old Tekin ESC610 (will need to re-connect the plug) and Trinity 16 turns motor. Hopefully I can finish it soon and snap a pic.
  • 02/02/2003
      02/01/2003 was a tregic day ...
my prayers for the families of the 7 astronauts aboard space shuttle Columbia.
  • 01/21/2003
OK. I have finished adding an extra 12V power outlet along the passenger side foot wall of the transmission on the S2000. From now on, I won't have a "power line" hanging over the center console whenever I am using my radar detector. To complete this project, I will be painting the red (live) wire of the extra power outlet black so that it won't stick out too much.
My next *adventure* will be to get my 1/10 RC car to run again. It's a 15 yr old Yokomo YZ-870c. ^_^ I need to replace batteries, chargers and whatever that doesn't work. :p
  • 01/15/2003
    • Well, I finally sold my Regamaster EVO rims. I put the stock rims back on my S2000 again. (So I won't have an extra set of rims sitting in my garage taking up space :p    )
    • I have finished my audio mod for the S2000 for now. I now have:
      • Apline CDA-7878 head unit (21W RMS /45W max, mp3, DHE, F1 mechanism, built-in time correction and active crossover, etc)
      • Sony XS-V1632 6 1/2" 3-way front speakers
      • Honda OEM 6 1/2" speakers (20W rms?) for the rear with Sony 6 1/2" speak grills. (They are used to be the front speakers but I cut the rear panel behind the seats and installed them as rear speakers. They are not bad at all for the price, which is free! :D     )
I am pretty happy with this setup. Since I am trying to stay away from ext. amp and subs (for lack of space and avoid excess weight), I think this setup will stay for a long time. Unless I blow the Honda OEM speakers. :p The int. active crossover of the head unit  is a really neat feature cause I can use it to clean the output of those Honda OEM, which doesn't have a good frequency respond range.
    • I think I am done with the mods on S2000 for now, since I NA mod won't get me too far, FI mod cost too much and I don't want to mess with the stock suspension and messed up the balance. I might look into some other toys for my entertainment purposes:
      • Upgrade AE92 ... the 5" rear speakers on my AE92. They are some weird size. O_o I tried 5 1/4" and they won't fit and 4" is too small ... Since everything else on it is working well and I want to keep it fun but low cost, I won't be doing performance mod on it. I might think about a better head unit after replacing the speakers. I am currently running a Sony Tape Deck on it (I forgot the model # and am too lazy to run out and look :p   ) But probably would stick to Sony head unit with mp3 cause I don't want to do another wiring harness for it.
      • Digital Camera ... Oylmpus E-20?!
      • Gaming ... Better sound card on my computer? Game console? XBox? PS2?
      • PDA ... new color Palm? Sony Clie?
      • ... who knows? ^_^
  • 12/08/2002
Well, finals come and go ... (boy am I glad! ;-)
I have a new tripod mess. I may eventually mirgrate everythere, or just use the tripod page as a online photo albumn. Tripod allows frontpage and ftp (compare to none for geocities).
I will see what time will allow me to do ...
  • 12/08/2002
    • Back from my thanks giving LV trip for a week already. Very good (eating) trip. Definitely want to do it again. Spent 5.5 hrs on the traffic returning to LA on Sat afternoon. Not too bad comparing to 8 hrs on Sunday. O_O Still trying to work on something to post the pic here. A lot of pic are waiting.
    • I have done some more programming to my S2000 tires vs speed page. I added more function and better realization of real world situation.  Check it out!
    • I am still trying to sell my lightweight 16" Regamaster EVO rims (just like Spoon wheels but different front offset) + tires. I guess I still want to go back to the original classic looks of the S2000. So somebody buys them now. ;-)
    • Final exams are coming in 2 weeks ... time to study again.
    • Ever since I got the a new GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64MB graphic card, I can't get my hands off the US Army game and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. This is definitely NOT helping me studying for my finals. =)
    • I should be receiving my Alpine CDA-7878 head unit in this upcoming week. The bad news is I probably won't have time to install it in my S2000 until the end of my finals. This is going to be a longer wait. Plus I have to figure out how to pre-wire the rear speakers, which rear speakers to get (4" vs. 5.25", 3-way vs. component, etc) and get tools for putting in the rear speakers (cutting and drilling is required)
  • 11/25/2002
Wow~ Haven't BS on this page for almost 2.5 months now. That's a long time to keep all the BS-ing to myself. Well, I have been busy that's all. Anyway, here are some of the recent BS:
      • School work and my work is taking up most of my time. Not too busy, but busy enough to keep me from sitting here/there doing nothing.
      • Had a very nice SF trip 2 weeks ago. As always, ate too much, sleep too little. I wished the trip/holiday could have been longer.
On the way to/back from SF, I did some test on my S2000. I hit 139 meter-per-hr redlining 5th (->mph ;-), on paper, it can do 144mph in 5th @ 9000rpm, and rev limiter should be around 9100rpm) . I was afraid that I might hit the rev limiter at that speed and I had to shift into 6th. But before I can give it some more go I had to shut down for traffic. It was quite stable at that kind of speed (meter-per-hr, hehe), but it was really loud: stock instake + VTEC + stock exhaust + wind noise + road noise! I can't hear the stereo at all. But who needs stereo when traveling at 139 meter-per-hr. At around 95-110 meter-per-hr. The car is super stable and you didn't feel like you were traveling at speed (again, meter-per-hr).
      • I have added to my S2000:
        • DC Sports stainless steel header on my S2000. It didn't give significant gain in hp and tq, but there is a noticeable improvement right at around 1500rpm and just before and after VTEC point (i.e. the VTEC transition is smoother). And it's 10lb+ lighter than the stock header and looks 10 times better.
        • Sony XS-V1632 6-1/2" 3-way speakers for the front speakers. They gives a lot better sound over the stock 1.5 way speakers. A lot more definition and some what more bass.
        • Mud Flap! No, a mud flap has no place on a sports car. But until I got the Comptech Side Skirts for S2000, the mud flap is staying (to keep tires from kicking up more dirty than my liking).
        And I used to have:
        • Custom single outlet exhaust with 4" tip Magnaflow muffler. SOLD -- It's about 1/3 of the weight of the stock exhaust system (that's a lot of weight saving), it gives a lot better low end and high end (but lost some of the mid range) power, it gives a very mean an loud VTEC scream (sports bike/race car kind of scream) and the muffler is polished (which looks a lot better than the stock one). But I sold it because it's just too loud inside the car for my taste (I want to be able to listen to some classical and jazz some time, hehe).
        • Regamaster EVO rims in gunmetal, 16x7 (11lb) & 16x8 (12lb) with +45mm offset. FOR SELL -- They are excellent wheels! They save 26lb in total for all 4 corners. Very light and gives noticeable positive improvement in handling and accelerating. Better acceleration and a quicker turn in and response. Not to mention the wider stance gives the car a more purposeful sports car look. I can't say enough good things about them. I am selling them cause I no longer go for the super light mod on my S2000 and I would like to restoring it back to close to stock.
And I am going to have:
        • I don't plan on doing much performance mod for now. I will be doing comfort/audio mods. I will have a Alpine 7878 head unit soon and a set of 2-way 5.25" rear speakers (haven't decide upon the model and brand yet, may even opt for component speakers if my wallet allows, hehe) custom installed (by myself, hehe). I have no idea what to do after that. But it will come to me ... ;-)
      • On my Corolla GTS, I have added a set of fog lights (on sale item for $20 @ kragen, can't beat the price). It helps to lit up the road ahead a  bit, but boy, once you have the set of HID on the S2000, nothing else compares, hehe (ok, maybe a set of 8000k HID bulb).
      • A Las Vegas Trip is coming up this weekend and it should be fun.
      • I am trying to come up with another site special for my S2000 @ http://www.geocities.com/fkflee. For now, I have some tires and speed related calculation page over there, but i will eventually make it into a place where I can BS about my car(s).
      • I do have a lot of pic from my car's mods, out of town trips, etc. But since I really don't like how yahoo is running their yahoo photo now, I will have think of anyway to post pic that I can easily maintain.
      • peace ...
  • 08/05/2002
Ok, I have been busying with school stuff. I will be heading back to school in 2 weeks time, Computer Science Master @ CSU, Fullerton. Still have a lot of things needed to be taken care of before school starts on 08/26/02 ...
I have installed a front grill on my S2000. It's on the inside of the front grill. so it doesn't change much of how the front end looks. But what I am hoping is that it will do what its suppose to do (block anything that's trying to get in, besides air and maybe water) and stay out of the way. So far I have no over heating problem with the front grill installed. Have seen nothing but 3 bars on the temp gauage. I am hoping that I can keep it that way. I hope I can post some pix soon.
I went on to have a little top down (the car!!) big bear lake tour. Good drive. I will post some pix later on.
I just received the interior cover for S2000 from covercraft. The quality seems to be good. I haven't put it on to see how the fitment goes. I will do that later. Man, I still need the comptech side skirt, mp3 head unit, upgrade speakers, OEM hard top, K&N intake, some Ti N1 street exhaust (still not yet available, somebody got to make this and I will be first one on the line to buy one!), light weight battery, Tein RS coilover kit, 16" WORK wheels in gold, Mugen Racing Seat ... NA and light weight ...
Also, I am trying to install XP on my machine. I hope everything will go well.
Finally, I've realized I did too much driving and too little riding. I need to get back on my bike~!
  • 07/17/2002
I finally installed the Honda OEM front and rear spoiler on the S2000 last Friday. There were some little incident here or there, but both went on the car perfectly fine. I will have some pix available soon.
Also installed a set of headrest wind blocker in 2 minutes time. It works but it's a little expensive @ $20 for 2 pieces of plastic ...
A set of Grill-Tech front and side grills for the S2000 are here. They are power coated black. I will take a closer look and try the fitting soon.
The Corolla GT-S still sees a good amount of use and is due for an oil change. It's @ almost 115k miles now and still going strong~
  • 06/21/2002
I finally have to put a CA front plate on my S2000 ... not that I want to. But 2 of my friends already got busted for driving without a front plate. I guess I just have to live with a front plate for now ... :-<
An Escort Passport 8500 radar detector is coming in. As well as a pair of Honda OEM front and rear spoiler for S2000 ...
I am quite happy with the mpg of my Corolla GTS in the summer. Even with double clutching and rev-matching, I am still getting a little more than 31 mpg on average.
... Must stay awake ... for World Cup '02 quarter final games ... must stay awa ... Zzzz ...k ... Zzzz ...e...
      -_-
  • 06/10/2002
Life as usual ... not much is happening~ Spent a day driving top down (the car, not me, hehe) on San Gabriel Mountain (Azusa Canyon?!). Sunny day + top down driving + mountain roads ... you bet I will do it again~! :D
      Here are a couple pix.
  • 05/17/2002
      Man~
I haven't taken the S2000 out for almost 2 weeks. She is sitting there collecting dust ... (literally! I washed her the day after my driving school 2 weeks ago and now I can see some dust on the windshield!)
I think I most likely will take her with me when I head out tonight ... and I still get "butterfly in the stomach" ... Boy, what's happening to me ...? :D
  • 05/12/2002
I went to the Fast Line Driving School last Saturday (05/05/2002).
      Here are some pix:
      Danny Mckeever Driving School.
      Before the school:
      1. I thought I read up a lot of and at least know a little about how to make a fast turn and how to drive on the track and a fast pace situation.
      2. I should be able to swing the tail of Honda S2000 pretty easily.
      3. The Honda S2000 is fast.
      4. I need to learn how to drive in different situation.
      After the school:
      1. Nothing you've read before matters when you are on the track ... only seat time counts!
      2. The OEM S02 tires are sticky! and they are soft when they got hot! i can tell by the little rocks sticking to the tire after the track session. of course, my tire shows a lot of wear and tear after the driving school. inexperienced driver + soft tires + track time = beat up tires )
      3. S2K understeer when you are turning slow in and too much throttle on the way out. backing off the throttle will bring you back in line.
      4. The Honda S2000 is fast ... in a skilled driver. A well driven miata can be faster than a poorly driven S2K with 100hp difference (a car is as good as the driver can drive it)
      5. I only upset the rear once and it fish tailed a little (applied too much throttle exiting a turn and a bad line). the rear did stick to the ground even though i did some stupid driving (hitting the brake late, miss the shift and panic ) . i have to really tried to spin the rear out in a 200' skid pad. i have to hit the brake during the skid pad to make the rear spin out. and lifting my feet off the brake save it from a 180 degree spin.
      6. i still can't launch the car ... i tried to launch at 4000 rpm ... and you can guess what happened next ...
      7. Those helmets are heavy as hell ...
      8. I need more training ...
Conclusion: The driving school left me with:
      • A little less money in my pocket;
      • Some knowledge and experience of how to turn fast (Please, turning fast's da thing. Going fast on a straight line needs a big engine and a heavy right foot ...);
      • Some beat up tires @ less about 2000 miles;
      • Wanting more track time ...
  • 04/09/2002
I have finally put up some S2K pix in my album.

Come back from my Sea Otter Classic 2002. I did my first road race in Cat. Senior 5 on last Friday. I did ok. I made it home in one piece. It was rainning on and off. The result still hasn't posted on the Sea Otter Classic web site yet. Somebody is still protesting the result. Oh well ...
And then did the road fun ride on following Sunday. It was fun (except for the last huge climb, for some reason, I almost got my butt kicked during the last climb ... ?? Even though nobody was racing me on the way up ... haha). We were lost during the road fun ride and we rode 1/3 more than scheduled. It was kind of funny when we said ... "didn't we saw that before?" ... ;-)
There are suppose to be some photo coming up soon ...

      I've done it. A 26.2 miles run.
It was a beautiful day on Sunday March 3rd, 2002. More than 22,000 people ran the 2002 LA marathon. It was a great run ... yeah right ... it was more like a pain-full (even more so than painful. It's full of pain) run, at least for the last couple of miles.
I am happy that I could cross the finish line with my feet on the ground. It was pain-full, but I enjoyed it.
It was a celebration of living ...

I wanted to find out the relationship between the engine speed, rear wheel speed and gear of a Honda S2000 ...
This S2000 Calculator is born as a result of my curiosity.
A couple more days till my LA marathon ...
  • 02/20/2002
10 more days and counting till the LA marathon ...
      Sad news ... :~~
I have parted with my Titus Quasi Moto. Due to a lot of reason. I just simply couldn't spend enought time to put her on the trail. And also, I always wanted to get into AutoCrossing. I am planning on attending some AutoX events after I have put more saddle time on my S2K. (Sure enough, AutoX will take away more of my time and money, I am planning on running in the stock class, but still, tires, gas, brake pads ...)
I still love mtb, just that I have only little time on my hand and I have to choose between a lot of things ... I hope some day, when time and money (and health) will allow me to have my mtb, blasting on the trail again. Until then, ride safe!
(Look at the bright side, I still have my GT-S and S2K, road bike, running, weight training, computer games, email, internet, mp3, DVD/VCD, movies, friends to hang out with, fellowship, Church, families, malls, magazines, books, ... etc. And still more to come ...) ;-)

Warning!! VTEC is very addicting! Once you go passed 6000rpm on S2K, you want to keep going back to it! :D
I have finally broken-in my S2K. Passed the 750 miles (recommended break-in period accord to Honda is 600 miles, I just want to extend it to 750miles.) mark and it didn't burn any engine oil during the first 700 miles.
VTEC sounds very nice and it performs very good in my butt dyno. VTEC put a smile on my face everytime! :D
I may creat another page for my S2K somewhere here. I am still having too much fun to write anything now. But it will come soon ...

Happy New Year! World Cup 2002 is coming!
I have alarm installed on my new toy already. Yeah! Now I can drive her any time! everywhere! (Well, almost, luckily, I still have my AE92 as my alternative ride)
Now, I wish I have more cash for hard top, front and rear spoiler, new rims and tires, suspension work, super charger(!), exhaust, roll bar ...
      Here is another quick snap:

Holiday is coming. So I wish you a Merry Christmas! :-)
(my Christmas came early ... well not really, but at least my Christmas present did ... haha)
  • 12/20/2001
Tuesday (12/18/01) was an amazing night for me ... :-) I can't help simling everytime I think about it. After almost 2 years of waiting (1 year after I actually *experienced* it), more than 6 months of research and more than 3 hours of negotiating and paper works. I finally have in my garage ... A 2002 Honda S2000!! :-) (<- see? i can't help simling again! haha) Here is a pix:

It's a Sebring Silver Metallic with black interior. No option. She got less than 8 miles on the odometer when I picked up her (2 miles or so was my test drive, and err ... yeah, that's a SHE. hehe). And she still got all the wrap and plastic in and outside of her! I got her for $20 over MSRP after $80 rebate from the sales (it's a long story, I will tell it later). Well, now, I have one more reason to be merry for the holiday season (not that I don't give thanks to God and family already, just one more reason to be even more so) and all the reason not to buy any more toys any time soon (car payment ...). A S2000 page should be coming up in a short while (right now, I am too busy playing with my toys, hehe). Stay tune.
  • 12/07/2001
      Alright.
My Polar S710 has arrived a week ago. I used last weekend to test it a little on the road (riding) and on the track (jogging). It's a fun toy to play with. Really good function (i.e. thermometer, altimeter, HRM, full cycling computer including cadence (cost extra though), IR communication w/ analysis program on PC (again, IR interface cost extra) and also some other function(it can even *guess* your VO2max)). Let me spend more time on it and write more about it later.
I just set up the speed and cadence sensors on my road bike, I will see how well they work this weekend.
03/03/2002 will be a big day for me! My first marathon! The LA marathon! I still have no idea how on earth I will be able to finish it (26.2 miles ... ). I think I entered my first centry ride with more confident than this one. But for now, I will just stop worrying about it, shut up and try to put more mileage on my running shoes (I think I need new ones btw). Maybe I should make another page for "running and fittness". hehe~
  • 11/27/2001
Almost right after I consume a large amount calories in terms of a huge turkey dinner on Thursday, I spend the rest of the Thanks Giving long weekend (plus 1 day of vacation time) in Las Vagas. The following equation is always true for me Las Vagas = Buffet; So, more food equals to more calories ... Oh heck, I can care less about that ... hehe~ Which is more important? Food or ... food ... haha~ ;-)
I also went to the Hoover Dam. *Damn*! (hehe) that's huge! I've been there a couple of years ago, but this time it refreshed my memory of how big it actually is!
I took some pix, I will tried to post it here soon.
Finall! I got my shoes and stuff from www.saddlesore.net! It's about time! (Oh well, it should have been *time* 2 weeks ago ... hehe) It took 27 days (from the day I press the "order" button to me picking it up from my local post office. I ordered on 10/30/01. I picked it up on 11/27/01. The post mark on it is 11/02/01 in UK) for the package to arrive. It's quite a bit longer than I expected (my expectation was about 2 weeks). But it arrived after all. And www.saddlesore.net uses recorded mail (the same as registered mail), so somebody got to sign for it. It's quite unlikely to lost something this way. Anyway, I finally have my SIDI shoe and Look pedals ... Now, I have to get a pedal ranch to take the old SPD pedal off. (I already tried to do that with a small 15mm ranch ... that didn't work ... -_- ) Here are the goodies:

Now, next would be my Polar S710 HRM ... hehe ;-)
  • 11/22/2001
      Happy Thanks giving!! But ...
      :(
Still got no shoe in front of my door. It has been 3 weeks. Only one email from www.saddlesore.net saying that the package has been sent and they are going to look into it. I can understand if the package may arrive a little slower than usually because they are still trying to sort out the mail system in the US. (By all means, search baby, search! Look throught all the mails thoroughly please. We've have got to appreciate our hard working postal worker more!) Just that waiting-without-knowing-what-happened kind of suck ...
I will posted here the ending of this "mail order from UK" story.
I went on a little on a little 60 miles trips to Long Beach from East LA. Here is what happened.

I ordered a Polar S710 HRM + IR interface + cadece sensor. It sounds like a cool toy. A very well all in one package. Yeah, I am on the waiting list. Nobody got any of these in stock. Everybody is on the waiting list. I am still waiting for the "yes, we have it in stock now. You want us to ship them to you right a way?" phone call ... hehe ...
And yeah, I am getting into another mail order deal with out clearing my last mess ... -_-
We are men, we can't help it ...
  • 11/14/2001
Again, nothing much is going on.
Bought a pair of SIDI energy SDS road shoe, Look 296 pedals and a SIDI key ring over the web for less than the shoes alone if I bought it locally. Anxiously waiting for them to arrive. (not that I don't support my local bike shop, it's just that my bank account doesn't agree with me about that ... hehe)

I put the SLO lighthouse centry photos in my album.
  • 10/01/2001
I came back yesterday from Lighthouse 2001 Centry Ride near San Luis Obispo. My first centry ride. It was a really nice ride. Totally worth the 4 hours drive beginning 3am that day! (the ride started at 7 - 8am) Photos will be coming and more on the bike page later.
  • 09/23/2001
Finally got my black Thomson seatpost in 27.2x330mm for my Titus QM. Made a huge difference. No more knee pain on long climbs (yeah!). And I dialed in the fork and brakes as they broke in some more and as I put more serious dirt milage on the bike. I almost throw myself over the handle bar 4 times today cause:
      • The front brake got too powerful;
      • The fork got too plush (i.e. too much brake dive when the front brake got too powerful); And
      • The rider's mind was somewhere else when he should have concentrated on trying not to get himself killed.
But in all the 4 almost-got-too-intimate-with-the-dirt cases, the fork (again) and the kind-of-phat FireDHPro tires saved my ass. In simpler terms, they tracked really well and brought me back from lost-control to in-control.
      O_o
Seems like I am writing too much about bikes lately ...
Maybe I should start writing about my car & driving, or my running, or my reading, or movies, or planned trips, politics, religion, psycology, study of human behavour ...
      heh ...
  • 09/13/2001
I've updated the Titus Quasi Moto and Mongoose Bosberg pages in the bike section. Go check them out.

      Moment of slient ... -_-
  • 09/09/2001
I put some commend after my first off road ride with the Titus QM at my bike section. Now, I need some new pic of her, especially with some dirt on it. hehe~ ;-)
  • 09/05/2001
I have finished a long labour day weekend in Fresno. It was great, very fun, packed a lot of things in one weekend, very little sleep! In Fresno, I:
      1. went to my old fellowship, saw a lot of friends, it was great!
      2. went to a party (who the heck was the host again? oh, never mind. more beer please. thanks),
      3. did 2 road ride, some back country road. Very nice, as compared to riding next to freeways here in LA all the times,
      4. saw a football game on TV w/ friends, Fresno State vs. Oregan State. I wanted go see it, but the ticket is USD$45(!) and it's sold out(!). Of course, Fresno State won!
      5. ate a lot!
      6. went to movies,
      7. acade,
      8. tried out GT3 on PS2 ... boy ... now I want one ... hehe~, and
      9. saw some Tour de France on tape (oh well, I got no cable at home and we happen to have the tapes).
I did all these in a weekend. (of course I left out some obvious stuff, e.g. driving, just enjoy and hang out w/ friends, etc, haha)
Ok, my Titus is back together and on the road. Have been riding it a little and the first impression (on the road only) is very good. I wished it could be a little lighter. But I rather it to not-break than stupid light. I am still doing some break in and adjustment. And still need a longer seatpost (going to be a black straight Thomson 27.2 x 330mm, most likely) to complete the package. And when the 2.35 FireDHPro wears out (which is going to be soon), I will replace them with 2.1 FireXCPro or the new 2.1 trailblazer + superlite tubes to drop 1lb or so off the bike. But now, let the riding begin!
My Titus and Mongoose sitting at home, upside down
  • 08/24/2001
I am still trying to put my Titus together. I also missed something or some tools here or there, so I got to wait for it/them to arrive, it's already taking so long ...
But this is her current state. I had the Avid mechanical disc brake + Ultimate levers. It feels really smooth. I have to take her to the trail to break them in. I just think ... the Avid Ultimate levers fittoo tight ... everything is just right ... maybe I am more used to my old XTR levers (even the Hayes').
My Titus sitting at home, on the work stand
You can see the Marzocchi Z1 MCR. The Real hubs doesn't seems to spin as good as Shimano's, but I have to try it on the road and see. And you can see my Ultimate Pro work stand. I got it from Performance bike. It's pretty good. It works as advertised. Just that I have to aligned the bike to one of the legs of the tripod to make the stand stable. No big deal. Just pay a little more attention on it.
  • 08/15/2001
I almost got everything I need to build the bike. I am going to take it to a LSB and have them install the headset and fork. And I will take care of the rest. One little thing though, the REAL + 317 wheelset from jensonusa.com is schrader valva, not presta valve. So, I need to find some adapters for them. I don't really mind that, cause I got a good deal (even better the one on their web site), hehe~
I have to ride my road bike for now, but my titus is going to born again soon ...
  • 08/10/2001
I have been quite busy @ work. The company is pushing a lot of deadlines ... oh well, I rather not talk about work here. (Isn't +9 hours a day in the office not enough already?!)
Okay, I updated my Mongoose Bosberg and Titus QM page and also added one photo of my latest North Star trip in the photo album. Just wrote some of my thoughts after riding the bikes and the bikes update.
I have ordered a '01 Mazocchi Z1 MCR (good price, $380 shipped to my door) to replace my too-much-for-my-riding-style '00 RockShox Boxxer (So, anybody interested in a very new '00 7" boxxer + DH wheels + '00 Hayes 8" front 6" rear disc brake?). The UPS guy was trying to deliver it yesterday, but I missed him. Today should be the day. So, the Z1 can be here at time~ hehe~ let me post the pic when it arrives.
I realized that some function on the web site is messed up. Time to start the thinking process to redesign the whole thing again ...
  • 07/19/2001
OK, new toy arrived. As the same time, an old toy is gone.
I've sold my FSR XC S-WORK. In return, I took home a long travel freeride bike, a '99 Titus Quasi Moto. I couldn't really call it a downhill bike cause it got triple chain ring on it. haha~
But you can go to my bike section to check it out.
I haven't done much to my car lately, besides oil change and put in gas, haha~ I think I need to get some new transmittion oil, shifting is getting a little harder. Should I get a in-dash mp3 player? ;-P
  • 07/10/2001
Nothing much is going one. Just the old same. Planning on a SF again in 2 weeks. Man, I need a break ... (July 4th doesn't count since it was just one day in the middle of the day ... haha)
I think I need some new toys ...
Maybe its time to re-do this site again? ;-)
  • 06/05/2001
Back from my SF trip for more than 2 weeks already. I've done a Mt. Diablo ride there, very nice view, very long climb! I have some pix to put here later.
I have updated my FSR XC and bosbeg pix ...

  • 05/21/2001
I found out ... my new P4 computer can't play real time mp3 file? for some reason, the songs are always *skipping* and song like a skipping-CD ... what gives?! the mpg playback is also affacted too, but for some reason, it's not as bad as mp3. I suspect that this may due to 1) the USB keyboard and mouse is eating up too much system resources; or 2) the nature of winamp or mp3 playback is not good at the current platform; or 3) P4, the RD RAM and Win ME is not a good combination for winamp and mp3 to operate. I need to find out why ...
  • 05/20/2001
I got a new bike in my stable -- Mongoose Bosberg. I will put her pic up when I got the chance to.

I finally got a new computer. I seriously abused my old P2 233 (I overclocked it to 300, upgraded it to 128MB RAM, added a second small HD, broke one POS acer CDRW and a SONY CDROM, got new CDROM and CDRW running, got to take out the zip drive cause it was out of drive bay, got a voodoo, and then a voodoo 2, the sound card doesn't work all the times, numerous battles, killings and victories in games ... now, it finally can step back from the front line ...
My new computer is a P4 1.3GHz, 128MB RAM, 60GB HD, DVD, CDRW, 56k + NIC, 1394, 19" Philip *short neck* monitor ... it's a BIG step up from my old computer. I can't wait until more programs and games are utilizing P4 (Photoshop 6 new patch does). On the car side, my AE92 has been sitting inside the garage on week days lately since I have been riding my bike to work. She only sees sun light (or moon light, haha) on weekends now. Still healthy and running strong. It's good to have a small rev-loving 1.6L NA engine when the gas price is shooting up ... hehe~
On the bike side, I am thinking of acquiring a new bike. But I couldn't really make up my mind on what to get and what should I do with my FSR XC. Road bike seems to be more appealing to me than before but seems like everything I have is for MTB. At the same time, a nice dual disc HT seems nice for everyday riding and smooth terrain cause its *suppose* to be simple and maintaince free. And then a 4" front and rear trail bike will be fun too? (don't you love to see suspension works and even out of the rough trail?) ... see how confused I am ... @_@ ... One good thing about all these confusion is that my money is still in my bank account, not in somebody else's ... haha~ :-)
  • 05/03/2001
I went to Las Vegas last weekend. Quite a short trip, couldn't accomplish much, besides eat, eat and more eating. Great food I have to say. I didn't have a chance to take pictures. But I have put up some interesting ones in my online album.

After a long wait, I finally replaced the busted front speakers of my Corolla with a set of Pioneer TS-G1045, 4" 2-way speaker.

They sound a lot better than my old crappy Toyota stock speakers. And they are pretty cheap. I do need to take the lower part of the front dash off on both driver and passenger side. But it worth the extra work. I will try to post what I did later on the web.
And since I couldn't really find any where on the web that talks about how to replace front speaker on a '88 - '92 corolla, and installation of the TRD quick shifter set, I may want to polish up the pics and make them an instruction on the web ...
  • 04/16/2001
Replaced spark plugs with Bosch Plantinum +4, and OEM Toyota spark plug wires, cap and rotor for regular maintaince. A lot smoother with the new spark plugs.
  • 04/05/2001
I added random picture on the very first page.
      Nothing much. Still kicking ...
  • 03/27/2001
OK, I am back from 2001 Sea Otter Classic at Laguna Seca, Monterey, CA. I had so much fun, saw new products, did the fun ride, saw races, had too much sun ... wonderful. I took a lot of pictures, here and here are some of them. I also tried out the Sharp DV, pretty cool. I wonder can how I put some movie clips here ... haha~
On my way from LA to Monterey (330 miles+), I ran into route 198 that links between I-5 and 101. it was quite a fun drive at 198, almost 50 miles long of twisty back country road. It seriously tested how good my car and I can turn ... and I found out how much I need to improve on my driving skill ... haha~
  • 03/21/2001
Recently, I got hooked playing Porsche Unleashed. And the game is always reminding me ... "It's time to upgrade the computer."
Just got the Sharp DV working with a US power cord. So, don't be surprise if you see some movies here. But first, I need the *optional* download kit from Sharp. It would be nice if they included that.
I will be going to Sea Otter Classic 2001 again this weekend. I found out that's like 6 hours drive for me ... But I think it's worth it. I am not going to race this year since I am totally not in the condition. I might even have trouble finishing the 14 miles fun ride. I will post some pictures here later.
I also got a Easton EA70 flat bar, bont' race lite barend and ODI lock rings and grips for my bike. Now I want a pair of TIME pedals and a light wheelset ...
  • 03/03/2001
Fixed links, added pictures, added Rio 500 page, going to update more soon ...
      Sleepy ... go to sleep.
  • 02/21/2001
I've finally updated my homepage. This is now version 4.0
But I still have a couples of pages and pictures to finish up ...
  • 02/06/2001
K&N is here, installed. I didn't expect too much improvement since it's only a stock replacement. But to my surprise, it felt pretty good, especially in low rpm. It wasn't a gaint step, but noticable. (This may also due to the fact that my old air filter was really dirty, haha~)
I just spent a weekend in SF, drove all the way there (373 miles one way to be exact). The weekend was serously fun. On the way to SF, I tested my car's top speed, sort of. It reached 116 or 7, until i had to slow down for traffic. It was still going up little by little, but I doubt it would go up much more than this. I will put this in my ae-92 page when the time comes.
Things are settling down, not as crazy as before. Still got a handful of stuff to do ...

Photo album update, added some pictures from my NY trip: photos.yahoo.com/fkflee
Car update, I have changed the lense on the front bumper to clear lense with orange bulb. Looks a little different. I like the new look though. I will put the new picture up soon. And the K&N air filter is on its way.
Plus we have a new car in the family: A 2001 Honda Accord EX V6. It's pretty cool. Photo up soon.
The rest of it, I am pretty busy, still trying to update this home, I already have some idea and draft. I just need the time and work.

The mother ship has landed. 2001 is here and rolling.
OK, I am back from my NY trip. It was heck a lot of fun. I enjoyed it very very much! I have tons of pictures to show you. Just give me a little time ...
My TRD quick shifter has arrived, and installed. And I find out one funny thing ... I will mention it when it put up my new AE92 section.
Speaking of that. I will remodel this place a little soon. Stay tune.
      TRD air filter update.
I will return the air filter to http://www.partznet.com. And then I will get a K&N filter.

      TRD air filter update.
I found out that http://www.partznet.com send me the wrong air filter. I called them and they are going to exchange it for free. I will put the update here after it's done. And the TRD quick shifter from the them still haven't arrive yet. Hope, I will get both after the I come back from my holiday.
Here is a picture of my 4AGE for now ...
  • 12/20/2000
Hi there. I haven't write here for quite some time already. I was busy. My work was busy. A lot of work to do. Anyway, it's holiday season now. I bought a bunch of stuff. 2 interesting ones are for my car. A TRD high flow air filter

and a TRD quick shifter for my AE92. I think it's going to be fun putting those in my car. At least the quick shifter will make the car more enjoyable. I am going to buy a set of pedals later and practice some heal-toe myself ... haha~ (speaking of heal-toe, try http://www.turnfast.com for some good info)
Oh, I am going to New York for my holiday~! It's going to be a great trip. I just hope that the weather is going to be fine ...
Anyway, before I go, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
  • 10/26/2000
Hi there. I have been in LA for almost a month now. Nothing special going on. Still the old same. Just trying to get a life here. And well, I have very little time to myself now, so haven't do update here as often. It's funny, I am in the web designing work, I spend 8 to 12 hours in the office looking at web sites and I still spend time on my own web site ... haha~
anyway, I did some modification here, e.g. give up using frame, get a new guestbook from yahoo since my old guestbook get messed up.
I am going to add some photos and also manage my links, add and delete some ...
  • 09/22/2000
Oh well, haven't write anything here for a while already. There are some changes happening in my life ...
The most important of all, I finally got a job, I am not a professional unemployee anymore. The job is not here in Fresno, it's in Southern California. Actually, I have already moved 85% of my stuff there. I will officially move away this weekend.
I don't believe I am saying this but I think I am going to miss Fresno ... when my friends were here, we always joked (maybe somebody really meant it, but anyway ...) about how much we hated here, and want to move away ASAP, blah, blah, blah ... but when the time comes for me to move away, i still can't help it but feel a little sad. I have spent almost 5 years here in Fresno. I feel like I am leaving behind 5 years of my life and moving to a "survivor's island" ...
Today, I walked around without wearing my glasses, oh yeah, by the way, I need to wear glasses. Suddenly, everything looks better, every person looks more beautiful, even the buildings everywhere look nicer ... maybe I was just kidding myself or running away from something ... either way, I am not facing the actually problem itself ... or maybe I am just sad that I have to leave Fresno.

I have finished uploading the Chicago photos. And also, I uploaded the photos from my recent trip to Yosemite National Park.
Lately, I am busy packing stuff, preparing to move, but don't know the destination yet ... haha~
Trying to fix my damn CDRW drive (it's a Acer 4232A ... that thing can burning until it reaches the TOC writing park, then error message will pop up and everything will be ruined. damn)
Lesson learned here ... don't get cheap stuff, cause they only works for a while ... -_-

I am working on the pictures from the Chicago trip, just finished uploading about 100 pictures, still got quite some more to go.
I have to keep the number of pictures at low as possible since I have have limited space on the web and viewing ALL picture is going to take some time ...
So, I am only putting about 1/3 of the pictures from our Chicago trip on the web.
Anyway, still more Chicago picture coming, plus some from my latest trip to Yosemite Nation Park.

I got the pictures from the Chicago trip. There are over 900 of them ... Well, I will need some time to sort them out, and maybe fix them up a little. Give me some time, and do come back soon. I will post my progress here periodically.
Well, school is starting in CSU, Fresno. Not that it got anything to do with me. I just feel a little weired. First time in my life, I don't need to worry about school.

Updated the links a little. All links are now open to a new windows, added some links, deleted some old links, fixed some missing links ... stuff like that.
But still, I consider the links are kind of a mess ...
